NFL Player News - Week 8

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

BAL - RB Terrance West remains sidelined

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens RB Terrance West (calf) did not participate in the team's walkthrough Monday, Oct. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens have a short week as they play on Thursday night in Week 8. If West is out, then we should see Alex Collins as the lead back for the Ravens against the Dolphins. In addition to Collins, Buck Allen should be involved as a runner and receiver out of the backfield.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer thinks he can return

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) believes he may be able to return in four to six weeks, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That is an optimistic timetable compared to the eight-week window that was initially predicted. Arians said the team will wait to see what the doctors say but that Palmer could be designated to return if he is placed on the Reserve/Injured list. The Cardinals will move forward with Drew Stanton as their quarterback...but if he struggles they could eventually turn to Blaine Gabbert while Palmer is out.

IND - QB Andrew Luck won't practice this week

    Source: Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) will not practice this week and will only participate in rehabilitation for his injured shoulder, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Luck has already been declared out for Week 8. We were once hopeful we could see Luck by this time of the season, and now those hopes are dashed. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Luck miss the entire year.

DEN - Denver not benching QB Trevor Siemian

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian will remain the Broncos' starting quarterback going forward, according to head coach Vance Joseph. 'He's our quarterback. He can't play well if he's not being protected,' Joseph said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Siemian has struggled to put the offense in position to score points over the last month of the season. Behind him is Brock Osweiler, and that doesn't exactly instill confidence. We'll see Siemian start on the road against the Chiefs on Monday Night Football in Week 8. If he continues to struggle the coaching staff might change their mind about Siemian's spot at the top of the depth chart.

MIA - TE Julius Thomas listed as limited

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas (knee) was limited during practice Monday, Oct. 23. The Dolphins did not hold a practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas had a season-high 58 yards receiving in Week 7 against the Jets. We'll see if he can be more involved going forward with Matt Moore in at quarterback.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi a limited participant

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (elbow, knee) was limited during practice Monday, Oct. 23. The Dolphins did not hold a practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi didn't find much room to run against the Jets in Week 7. He carried the ball 23 times but only for 51 yards. With Matt Moore starting at quarterback, the Dolphins offense should see more defenders in the box to stuff the run.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders now day-to-day

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle) has been upgraded to day-to-day after being considered week-to-week. Sanders was sidelined for Week 7 with a sprained ankle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They haven't ever called this a high-ankle sprain, and if Sanders is already day-to-day then it probably was just a regular sprained ankle. Sanders missed Week 7 against the Chargers, and his playing status for Week 8 against the Chiefs is unclear.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs could be in uniform

    Source: Vikings.com

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (groin) has a chance to play in the team's Week 8 game, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Diggs has yet to practice since injuring his groin against the Bears in Week 5 and remains week-to-week. We could see him practice sometime this week leading up to their Week 8 game against the Browns.

TEN - RB DeMarco Murray also has a bruise

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (shoulder) is dealing with a bruised shoulder, according to head coach Mike Mularkey. A timetable for his return was not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Titans have a bye in Week 8, so Murray has plenty of time to rest his injured shoulder. He will also have more time for his hamstring injury to feel better.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker avoids serious injury

    Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (ankle) is dealing with a bone bruise in his injured ankle. A timetable for his return was not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Titans and for fantasy owners here. The Titans are off in Week 8, but it sounds like Walker could return to the field for Week 9.

CLE - Cleveland holding off on quarterback decision

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson told the media Monday, Oct. 23, he is not ready to name a starting quarterback yet between DeShone Kizer, Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The choice between these quarterbacks is like the choice between airline food or hospital food. Both will get the job done, but none of them are anything to get real excited about. The Browns are at home to play the Vikings in Week 8.

CIN - RB Joe Mixon not happy with workload

    Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon was not give a single carry in the second half of the Bengals' Week 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mixon verbalized his feelings, saying it was difficult watching Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell carry the football 35 times while he was a non-factor in the second half. The rookie running back ran the ball well in the first half, too, averaging 6.9 yards per carry.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mixon only played 22 snaps against the Steelers on Sunday. He had previously been playing around 34 snaps per game in the previous three contests. We'll see if the Bengals listen to Mixon and feed him the rock in Week 8 against the Colts.

PIT - No discipline coming for WR Martavis Bryant?

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not expected to discipline or trade WR Martavis Bryant after he did not show up for a required team meeting Monday, Oct. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It seems like Bryant is trying to get dealt before the trade deadline next week. He's missed this meeting in addition to ruffling some feathers with comments on social media each of the last two weeks. Reports indicate the Steelers have no plans to trade Bryant.

MIA - QB Jay Cutler has broken ribs

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an earlier report, Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) does have cracked ribs, but there is no word on additional test results yet.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cutler could miss a couple of weeks with this rib injury. When he returns, Matt Moore may have solidified himself as the team's starter. Even though Cutler was performing well in Week 7 against the Jets, he hasn't been good this year and the team might continue to be sparked by Moore.

    Wednesday Update

DAL - Dallas signs PK Mike Nugent

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent PK Mike Nugent (Giants) was signed to an undisclosed deal by the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, Oct. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see Dan Bailey miss several weeks with the groin injury he suffered on Sunday against the 49ers. Nugent is a solid veteran who can help out fantasy owners looking for a kicker on a high-scoring team.

OAK - RB Marshawn Lynch's suspension upheld

    Source: NFL.com - Michael Signora

Oakland Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch lost the appeal on his one-game suspension and will miss Week 8 versus the Buffalo Bills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see the Raiders implement a RBBC with Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington against the Bills. The committee hurts the fantasy value of both backs. Lynch will return to the field in Week 9 against the Dolphins.

CAR - TE Greg Olsen likely to practice next week

Source: The Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) expects to practice when he is eligible to do so next week after going on the Reserve/Injured list after suffering a broken right foot in Week 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners with bench space (and a need for TE help) can look to see if Olsen is out there on the waiver wire. Olsen is not eligible to return until Week 12 against the Jets.

MIA - QB Jay Cutler to start when healthy

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

The Miami Dolphins plan to start QB Jay Cutler (ribs) when he returns from his rib injury later in the season. He will miss at least one game, if not more, with cracked ribs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cutler is out for the Week 8 game against the Ravens as the Dolphins have a short week because they play on Thursday night. Matt Moore is the starter and we wouldn't be shocked to see him remain as the starter if he lights things up.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi fully practices

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (knee, elbow) participated fully in practice Tuesday, Oct. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Ajayi did not have much rushing room against the Jets in Week 7 (23 carries, 51 yards), but he's getting about 24 carries per game and was used more in the passing game on Sunday (3 catches, 26 yards). With QB Matt Moore taking over for an injured Jay Cutler, we should see Ajayi continue to be heavily featured in the Dolphins offense. The Ravens give up rushing yards like they're handing out Halloween candy. They currently rank 32nd in the league, allowing an average of 145.3 rushing yards per game.

NYG - WR Sterling Shepard eyes Week 9 return

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (ankle) told reporters Tuesday, Oct. 24, that he'll be ready to play when the team returns to action in Week 9 versus the Los Angeles Rams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shepard hasn't played since getting hurt in Week 5 against the Chargers. He's the best wide receiver on the Giants roster and his workload alone gives him WR3 value for fantasy owners.

BAL - WR Mike Wallace limited

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Baltimore Ravens WR Mike Wallace (concussion) was limited in practice Tuesday, Oct. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a short week for the Ravens as they play the Dolphins at home on Thursday night. We'll know more about Wallace's status on Wednesday.

BAL - Full practice for WR Jeremy Maclin

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Baltimore Ravens WR Jeremy Maclin (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Tuesday, Oct. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin hasn't played since Week 5 against the Raiders when he logged 46 snaps, 8 targets, 6 catches and 43 receiving yards. He's on track to play in Week 8, but the Ravens have a short week as they're playing against the Dolphins on Thursday night. Maclin's playing status is not a given, and he could be labeled a 'game time decision' further clouding his fantasy potential. He's flex worth when at full strength, but it's best just to wait and see if Maclin is back before rushing to get him in your lineup.

MIA - TE Julius Thomas full go Tuesday

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas (knee) practiced in full Tuesday, Oct. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas had three catches for 58 yards in Week 7 against the Jets, both season highs for the veteran tight end. With QB Matt Moore starting for an injured Jay Cutler, we could see a few more targets for Thomas as a relief-valve receiver.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker upgraded to limited

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Tuesday, Oct. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker may be able to return from his ankle injury this week as the Dolphins travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on Thursday night. If Parker does play, it could negatively impact the fantasy value of WR Kenny Stills. Check back to see if he can practice again on Wednesday.

MIA - Miami signs David Fales

    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Free-agent QB David Fales (Dolphins) was re-signed by the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, Oct. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Jay Cutler (ribs) banged up, the team needed quarterback depth. Matt Moore will start for the Dolphins with Fales backing him up. Fales was signed by the Dolphins back in April, played with them through training camp and the preseason, but did not make the final cuts in early September.

PIT - TE Vance McDonald working through knee bruise

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald (knee) appears to be on track to play in Week 8 versus the Detroit Lions despite dealing with a knee bruise, but head coach Mike Tomlin suggested the injury could affect his participation in practice this week.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
His 37 yards receiving against the Bengals in Week 7 was the season high for McDonald. As he gets healthier, the Steelers might start using McDonald a little bit more.

PIT - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster dealing with concussion

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Juju Smith-Schuster (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Smith-Schuster has scored three touchdowns this year and snared three passes for 39 yards and one touchdown against the Bengals in Week 7. If he clears the concussion protocol, we'd consider him a 'what the heck' flex play against the Lions in Week 8.

    Thursday Update

MIA - WR DeVante Parker 'will try to play' Thursday

Source: The Palm Beach Post - Alex Makrides

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (ankle) said he would 'attempt to play' in the team's Week 8 game Thursday, Oct. 26, against the Baltimore Ravens.

CLE - QB DeShone Kizer starting

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com

Cleveland Browns QB DeShone Kizer was named the Week 8 starter Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns have made a decision...for now. Kizer could start the game and then get pulled once he keeps turning the ball over. The only asset on the Browns offense we want to start in fantasy leagues is RB Duke Johnson Jr. He's got plenty of flex appeal, especially in PPR leagues.

BAL - Benjamin Watson may miss first game

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (knee, calf) could very possibly miss his first action of the season in the team's Week 8 game Thursday, Oct. 26, against the Miami Dolphins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Ravens have had more than their fair share of injuries at the TE position. Watson has been playing with this calf injury the past couple of weeks, and he's missed the last two days of practice as a result of his recent knee ailment. The Ravens signed TE Gavin Escobar on Monday due to Watson's injury woes.

SEA - No practice for RB C.J. Prosise

    Source: HoustonTexans.com
Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Prosise may end up as a change-of-pace back with 'what the heck' flex appeal in PPR leagues...but he has to be full strength first. We'll know more about his playing status later in the week.

SF - WR Marquise Goodwin limited in practice

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Marquise Goodwin (back) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goodwin may be a 'what the heck' flex against the Eagles in Week 8. Check back later in the week to see if he can practice fully.

PHI - RB Wendell Smallwood fully participates

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood (knee) was able to take part in a full practice session Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fully participating is a good sign for Smallwood. He's part of the Eagles RBBC, but it's hammer LeGarrette Blount who serves as the lead back. Smallwood is a RB3/flex play in PPR leagues.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery practices in full

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (groin) was listed as a full participant for practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Against the 49ers in Week 8, we like Jeffery as a low-end WR2 or flex play for fantasy owners in PPR leagues.

LAC - RB Melvin Gordon limited

    Source: Chargers.com

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (foot) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's Wednesday, so Gordon might be a full participant at the end of the week. He's an RB1 against the Patriots in Week 8.

HOU - TE C.J. Fiedorowicz practices Wednesday

    Source: HoustonTexans.com - Deepi Sidhu

Houston Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz (concussion) participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25, and may be one of the players designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fiedoworicz is likely to be designated to return, and when he is the Texans would have two weeks to get him on the active roster. We've seen Ryan Griffin filling in while Fiedorowicz has been out.

PIT - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster practices in full

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) was able to take part in a full practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We may continue to see more of the rookie WR going forward. Smith-Schuster is building great chemistry with QB Ben Roethlisberger and has WR3 (with upside) potential against the Lions in Week 8.

DET - WR Golden Tate limited in practice

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Watch Tate's status closely. Earlier reports had Tate likely to miss Week 8. The Lions did activate WR Jace Billingsley off their practice squad on Wednesday.

MIA - TE Julius Thomas not on injury report

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas could be getting more work with QB Matt Moore under center. We'll see if he can continue to stay healthy and trend in the right direction for fantasy owners. Thomas is a TE2 with upside who may be on waiver wires out there.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi will play in Week 8

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (elbow, knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi will play on Thursday night against the Ravens and he has a great matchup in Week 8. The Ravens are the worst in the league when it comes to stopping the run, and with QB Matt Moore under center we should see a heavy workload for Ajayi.

NO - WR Willie Snead full go Wednesday

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead (hamstring) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Snead was a scratch last week even though it looked like he was going to play. With Michael Thomas a little banged up (knee), Snead might get more work than some think at home against the Bears.

NO - No practice for WR Michael Thomas

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas (knee) was not able to practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch to see if Thomas can practice later in the week. If he plays against the Bears in Week 8, Thomas always has WR1 upside.

CHI - WR Dontrelle Inman acquired from LA Chargers

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Chicago Bears acquired Los Angeles Chargers WR Dontrelle Inman in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick Wednesday, Oct. 25.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bears needed to make a move to upgrade their WR corps. He'd been inactive for a couple of games with the Chargers and hadn't seen the field since Week 5 against the Giants. After getting targeted 97 times in 2016 (58 catches, 810 yards, four touchdowns), Inman only had four targets so far in 2017. Inman could make an immediate impact for the Bears as a starter, and his workload gives him WR3 upside and at least flex appeal for fantasy owners.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs could play Week 8?

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (groin) will travel with the team to London and has a 'good chance' to play in Week 8 versus the Cleveland Browns, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Staring at a Week 9 bye, the Vikings might decide to give Diggs another week of rest. We haven't seen him on the field since Week 5 against the Bears. If Diggs plays, it would take some targets away from WR Adam Thielen. We still think TE Kyle Rudolph has a good game against a Browns defense that struggles covering the position.

CAR - TE Ed Dickson sits out practice Wednesday

Source: The Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers TE Ed Dickson (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dickson may be able to practice later in the week. In a matchup against the Buccaneers, Dickson might produce like a TE2 for fantasy owners in Week 8.

MIN - QB Sam Bradford still not practicing

    Source: ESPN.com - Courtney Cronin

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 25, and has reportedly not done so during the media window in over two weeks, according to ESPN's Courtney Cronin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Vikings have Case Keenum as their starter and Teddy Bridgewater might soon be back on the field. The team has a Week 9 bye, so there's no rush to get Bradford out there...especially since they're winning and Keenum is playing well.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer having surgery

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (arm) will have surgery to repair his broken arm Wednesday, Oct. 25, according to a source. He hopes to return quicker than the eight-week window.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cardinals are initially turning to Drew Stanton as their starter. Don't be surprised if he eventually see Blaine Gabbert at the top of the depth chart if (when?) Stanton struggles. Palmer's injury is to his non-throwing arm, so perhaps that increases his chances of returning sooner than the eight-week timetable.

    Friday Update

SF - WR Pierre Garcon back at practice

    Source: 49ers.com

San Francisco 49ers WR Pierre Garcon (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Garcon could have a lot of work this week as there is a good chance the Niners will be chasing the Eagles and playing catchup. So they could throw....a lot. Even with that, though, Garcon is no more than a solid WR3. This offense is just not good.

SEA - RB C.J. Prosise sits out practice again

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (ankle) did not participate in practice for the second day in a row Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It looks like this week the Seattle backfield will center on Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy, neither of which are inspiring. Rawls might serve as a flex player, but Lacy is not worth having in your lineup at all.

SF - WR Marquise Goodwin misses practice

    Source: 49ers.com

San Francisco 49ers WR Marquise Goodwin (back) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Goodwin has been no more than a flex play this year save for Week 5, and we don't expect a back issue to help that. Even if he is active, don't have him in your lineup.

NFL - WR Anquan Boldin looking to play again

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Retired WR Anquan Boldin has expressed a desire to play again and has received permission from the Buffalo Bills for his agent to seek a trade.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There are enough banged up receiving corps in the league to think he might get a look, but honestly as much as we love Boldin, he is way past the expiration date and would have no real fantasy value.

NE - WR Danny Amendola gets in limited practice

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep watch on this Friday, but we still believe he won't be more than a decoy if he is suited up this week. Avoid him until we are seeing consistent full practices.

KC - RB Charcandrick West takes part in practice

    Source: Chiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West is a third or fourth wheel behind Kareem Hunt. He's really only good insurance for the rookie at this point.

DEN - RB Jamaal Charles does not practice

    Source: NFL

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We're not sure what is going on with Jamaal Charles but we know nothing good is happening with the offensive line and passing offense. It will be tough sledding against Kansas City this week and the lack of success in the passing offense could make it tougher as the Chiefs focus on the running game. On top of all that, if Denver falls behind they will have to pass and that means less touches for the backfield. We would bench Charles this week if he plays.

LAC - Another limited practice for RB Melvin Gordon

    Source: Chargers.com

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (foot) was a limited participant in practice for the second consecutive day Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Melvin Gordon suits up we think he is a great play this weekend against a Patirots defense which has struggled and is one of the worst run defense in the NFL according to Football Outsiders DVOA metric. Start him as a top back and don't fret.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson practices in full

    Source: NFL

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson is kind of feast or famine this year, though the last two weeks have been more of the latter due to a 100-plus yard receiving game against San Francisco and a catch for a touchdown against Philadelphia last week. His upside is RB2, but his floor is quite low so be careful where you start him.

NO - Full practice for WR Willie Snead

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead (hamstring) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Snead isn't all the way back physically, and isn't a big part of the plans right now in New Orleans. We're taking a hard pass on him this week.

NO - WR Michael Thomas listed as questionable

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We are expecting him to play and put up tremendous numbers on an overmatched Bears defense. Our only hesitation would be the Saints going up early in a big way, but the Saints defense is average enough to where we think the risk is mitigated.

ATL - RB Tevin Coleman limited again

    Source: Newsday - Calvin Watkins

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This has not been Coleman's year though he has had some decent games and the Jets are a solid matchup. The Falcons may use him to attack the Jets linebackers who are notoriously bad in coverage from a historical standpoint, but even that doesn't bump him up a ton in our estimation. Consider him a flex option with a little bit of upside if you have to, but we would try and find a more reliable option on our bench.

PIT - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster has full practice

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) participated fully in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like to hear this but it's also his second concussion in less than a season (he had one in preseason, though was back in action quickly). His role is getting bigger while Martavis Bryant's is shrinking, and we like what Smith-Schuster brings to the table in terms of high and playmaking ability. And now that he can focus fully on the upcoming game since his stolen bike is back, we think he should put up some very good numbers against the Lions this week.

CHI - WR Dontrelle Inman sits out Thursday

    Source: ChicagoBears.com

Chicago Bears WR Dontrelle Inman (non-injury) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This isn't a good sign for any value this week even if the Bears insist he is playing. As we have said before, stay away.

DET - WR Golden Tate remains limited

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (shoulder) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We still think he's not likely to go, however, this is worth watching heading into Friday. A full practice could be a signal that the team will trot him out this weekend.

PHI - Full practice for WR Alshon Jeffery

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (groin) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery has struggled a bit this year, and often teams focus on him enough to take him away. Despite good numbers from Carson Wentz last week, Jeffery didn't produce. Against the San Francisco 49ers he should see an uptick though he should still produce at no more than a WR2 clip, especially since the Eagles are apt to get up early and run the ball to burn the clock and give Niners fans watching a break by ending the game as quickly as possible.

CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey practices in full

Source: The Associated Press - Steve Reed

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (wrist) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCaffrey's receiving ability salvages his value in an offense which is misfiring and doesn't always seem to know what to do with him. We expect RB3 numbers from him this week, but he has some RB2 upside if the offense gets going.

CAR - Full practice for TE Ed Dickson

Source: The Associated Press - Steve Reed

Carolina Panthers TE Ed Dickson (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

For a while, Dickson looked like a nice replacement for Greg Olsen, but the last two weeks have been shaky at best, with Dickson catching 7 balls for just 54 yards. The struggles Carolina's offense--particularly Cam Newton--is holding Dickson's upside down. He's a TE3 play at best this week, and there are much better options out there.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart limited Thursday

Source: The Associated Press - Steve Reed

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (toe) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stewart will probably get more of the carries but we like Christian McCaffrey's value due to his pass-catching prowess a bit more. Both are decent RB3 options, but McCaffrey will be closer to putting up RB2 numbers than Stewart will. If the offense can ever get going consistently, both backs will see their value go up We just don't know when that will happen.

DEN - No practice for WR Emmanuel Sanders

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanders is unlikely to play this week, leaving Demaryius Thomas to look to guys like Bennie Fowler for help this week. Trevor Siemian is currently tanking everyone's value in the offense, and while Thomas is slotted as merely a WR2/WR3 option, Fowler is no more than a middling WR4 play. The Chiefs' defense has been weak though, so they both have a chance to overperform. Siemian decreases that chance though.

DET - WR Kenny Golladay does not practice

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Golladay is in line for some significant targets with Golden Tate out but the old axiom is true--you have to be on the field to produce on the field. We'll see if he can get on the field for practice tomorrow. His impact would likely be minimal, but he could have some upside if he plays and Tate doesn't. Marvin Jones would be the lead receiver though.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte downgraded

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forte and Bilal Powell are eating into each other's carries and both considered RB3/RB4 options this weekend against a desperate Atlanta team because of it. We like Forte just a wee bit more because we think he'll get a few more passes thrown his way, but not much more. Neither is a stellar option this week.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs works out

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (groin, ankle) had a full workout Thursday, Oct. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Right now Adam Thielen has been Case Keenum's go to guy (a sentence we never saw coming) and it could take a week or two for Diggs to really fit back into the offense. On top of it, we wouldn't be stunned if the Vikings are well ahead and pass the ball minimally in the second half as they run the clock out on the ground. That makes even Thielen a bit lower in expectation this week, and we have him as a low-end WR2, while Diggs is a WR4 until he fully integrates himself back in and the Vikings are forced to throw more.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers had 13 screws inserted

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) disclosed on Conan with Conan O'Brien Wednesday, Oct. 25, that he had 13 screws inserted into his collarbone.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopefully he's not superstitious. We certainly aren't, but that does seem like a lot of screws and we wonder how this impacts him when he finally returns. We're crossing our fingers, throwing spilled salt over our shoulders, avoiding black cats and not walking under ladders just to be sure.

IND - QB Andrew Luck to play if cleared

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) will play if/when he is medically cleared this season regardless of the team's record, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Well, he will need to knock some rust off and depending on when he returns (if he returns), it will be close to a full year since his last regular season snap. The team has not done enough to help him and unless they do so this offseason, they are unlikely to see the full production he is capable of.

DEN - QB Paxton Lynch returns to practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch (shoulder) practiced Wednesday, Oct. 25, as part of what head coach Vance Joseph referred to as a 'jog through.' It was Lynch's first practice of any kind with teammates since Aug. 26, though Joseph classified Lynch's involvement as 'very limited.' There is no timeline for him to be cleared to play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
With a season on the verge of being out of control, Trevor Siemian looking like a mess and Brock Osweiler your only other option, Lynch will get the nod at some point. However, the Broncos aren't going to put him out there just to get hurt again and the offensive line is a mess the last few games, so that 'eventual' might take a little longer to come.

    Saturday Update

ARI - RB David Johnson unsure about return

Source: Arizona Sports 98.7 FM - Matt Layman

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) is still optimistic about returning to the field this season but admitted he is unsure if that will happen.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson should be in football shape with an injury that still allows him to work out, but if the Cardinals are out of the playoff hunt, they could shut him down. Hold him to see what happens, but know that there are no guarantees that he'll return.

CAR - Questionable tag for TE Ed Dickson

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers TE Ed Dickson (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 27, but is listed as questionable for Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dickson is expected to play and might be a decent desperation waiver wire play against a Bucs defense that gave up three big plays to inexperienced Bills tight ends last week.

NE - WR Danny Amendola questionable for Week 8

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 27, and is listed as questionable for Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Amendola is a likely game-time decision against the Chargers this week. If he can't go, Rob Gronkowski and Chris Hogan could get more targets in the middle of the field, assuming the weather hasn't gotten too bad by game time.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders unable to go

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle) was unable to practice again Friday, Oct. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanders is looking unlikely to play Monday night. Bennie Fowler and Jordan Taylor have a chance to get more snaps and targets against a Chiefs secondary that has some holes.

NO - WR Willie Snead not on injury report

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead (hamstring) fully participated in practice and is not on the injury report for Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goodwin could play on Sunday, but he would only be a big play waiver wire option at wide receiver with his deep speed. Goodwin had a good connection with new quarterback CJ Beathard last week against Dallas.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    Sunday Morning Injury Updates

    QUARTERBACK

JAMEIS WINSTON | SHOULDER | QUESTIONABLE | EXPECTED TO PLAY

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Full
The Buccaneers again rested Winston's shoulder this week, limiting his throwing until Friday. There were no limitations on him in last week's game, with the Tampa Bay passing game plan looking very similar to what it had been prior to Winston's injury. In the two games prior to his AC sprain, Winston threw the ball 38 and 46 times. Last week, he had 44 passing attempts -- including a number of downfield throws -- on his way to a season-high 384 yards. Though he's listed questionable, there was no indication Winston's rest this week was related to soreness after his big workload in Week 7. He's expected to play and should not have any game plan limitations.

    Others of note: Cam Newton
(shoulder), Jacoby Brissett (thumb), Josh McCown (back), and Case Keenum (chest) have practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and are expected to play without limitation. Sam Bradford (knee) and Andrew Luck (shoulder) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.

    RUNNING BACK

Melvin Gordon | Foot | Questionable | Likely to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited

There has been no reporting on Gordon's foot injury this week in the local or national media. While the lack of reporting -- and a full week of limited practice -- means Gordon isn't likely to be dealing with a long-term injury, it's not clear whether Gordon will be limited on game day or the team is continuing its previous pattern of veteran rest. Previously, the team minimized concerns with Gordon when he was listed with a knee contusion and shoulder injury. Though there's no official word this week, I think it's reasonable to assume the same and expect Gordon to take his usual share of the team's workload this week. Check back Sunday morning for an update.

    Tevin Coleman
    | Knee | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri -Full

The Falcons didn't share specifics on Coleman's knee injury. Dan Quinn told reporters Coleman was "fine" on Friday and the team allowed him to fully practice. Not listed on the game status report, Coleman is expected to play. Atlanta continues to take heat over the offensive game plan and erratic usage pattern of their offensive weapons. While Coleman's health looks to be a non-issue, deducing this week's workload remains difficult.

    Others of note: Rob Kelley
(ankle), Chris Thompson (toe), Jonathan Stewart (toe), Christian McCaffrey (wrist), Matt Forte (knee), and Wendell Smallwood (knee) have practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and are expected to play without limitation. C.J. Prosise (ankle) is doubtful and likely to be declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.

    WIDE RECEIVER

Stefon Diggs | Groin | Questionable | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full

Diggs traveled with the Vikings to London then fully practiced on both Thursday and Friday. He told reporters early this week he felt ready to play last week but the medical staff opted to rest him for another week. Minnesota listed him questionable but Diggs is expected to play. The clearance for long travel, consecutive full practices, and preparation to play with a bye week ahead strongly suggest the Vikings are ready to have Diggs fully participate in this week's game plan. And with Jason McCourty likely out with injury, Diggs' workload could be a productive one. Watch for any surprising notes during pregame warmups but, while there's always a risk of an in-game setback in a player's first game after a multiple-week soft tissue injury, Diggs has a good chance to see his usual 6+ targets.

    Michael Thomas
    | Knee | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Full

After a concerning Wednesday DNP, Thomas increased his practice participation all week and fully practiced on Friday. He is not listed on the New Orleans game status report and told reporters on Friday his early-week rest was "just being smart" and said he's ready to play. Expect no limitation on Sunday.

    Golden Tate
    | Shoulder | Questionable | Likely to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited

The early reports on Tate's injury suggested he would miss multiple games and Tate was seen wearing a sling last week during the Lions' bye. It was surprising to see him practice on Wednesday and then continue to practice throughout the week. Mid-grade AC sprains can be difficult to project in the early stages. Predicting how quickly stiffness and swelling resolve and when full range of motion returns is key. Some players struggle with both or have a playing style that risks aggravation. Others heal more quickly than expected. Tate seems to be in the latter category.

Still, it's unlikely Tate's injury has fully healed. He will be at risk of aggravation if he plays. This week's practice participation and media discussions are reassuring but be aware Tate's floor is lower than usual this week.
*Emmanuel Sanders | Ankle | pending | Unlikely to Play

Practice Participation: Thurs - DNP | Fri - DNP | Sat - Pending

The Broncos have yet to release Saturday's game status report but Sanders was still limping and only doing rehab work on a side field through the end of the week. Sanders has a low ankle sprain but the injury is of higher grade. While the Broncos would prefer to have Sanders available for Monday night's road divisional matchup in Kansas City, it's unlikely he'll have recovered enough to play.

    Danny Amendola
    | Knee | Questionable | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited

Amendola hyperextended his knee last week and was limited in practice this week. It's not clear whether Amendola's injury is a low-grade ligament sprain, meniscus damage, or contusion but he told reporters he was playing this week. He addressed possible weather concerns and said the team had considered the impact of a wet field. It's possible Amendola would be limited in any scenario but a wet field is more likely to limit his workload.

    Willie Snead
    | Hamstring | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full

Snead was inactive last Sunday. It was a surprise after he had returned to play the previous week. However, Snead's role remained minimal and the Saints expected a wet field and uncertain footing in Green Bay. A full week of practice also suggests last week's rest was primarily precautionary. Snead is not listed on the game status report and expected to be active. The Saints' wide receiver depth chart is healthy, however, and there's no guarantee Snead will see a spike in targets yet.

    JuJu Smith-Schuster
    | Concussion | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full

Smith-Schuster was fully practicing on Wednesday after a recent concussion and had no setbacks. After getting clearance by an independent neurologist, Smith-Schuster was not listed on the game status report and will play.

    John Ross
    | Knee | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full

Ross injured his knee late in the preseason and returned in Week 2. He managed only five offensive snaps, fumbled on his one rushing attempt, and was not seen again. It's unclear when Ross re-injured his knee or if he just wasn't comfortable at game speed. After another 4-6 weeks of deliberate rehab, Ross has made it through football-related practice over the past two weeks without issue. He's not listed on the game status report and is expected to be active. He'll likely see a limited role in situations where the Cincinnati offense can make best use of his speed -- multiple wide receiver sets, jet sweeps, etc.

    Kamar Aiken
    | Shoulder | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - Not Listed | Thurs - Not Listed | Fri - DNP

Aiken was added to the injury report after not practicing on Friday with a shoulder injury. The primary beat reporters in Indianapolis had no information on Aiken's status. He's listed questionable. I'll have updates through the weekend as they are reported.

    Others of note:
Alshon Jeffery (groin), Kelvin Benjamin (knee), Devin Funchess (hamstring), Kenny Britt (knee/groin), and Robby Anderson (knee) and have practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and are expected to play without limitation. Kenny Golladay (hamstring) and Markus Wheaton (groin) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.

    TIGHT END

Antonio Gates | Knee | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Full

Gates was limited with a knee injury this week but is expected to play. His snap count, target share, and red zone usage have all sharply trended downward over the past three games. While the injury doesn't appear to be significant, the larger trend of fewer snaps and targets is likely to continue.

    Ed Dickson
    | Ankle | Questionable | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full

The Panthers routinely use the questionable tab as a surrogate for probable. Dickson did not practice on Wednesday but fully practiced on Thursday and Friday and gave no indication he would be unable to play when talking to reporters about the Carolina offensive struggles early in the week.

    Others of note
: Charles Clay (knee) and Vance McDonald (knee) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.

    DEFENSIVE PLAYER NOTES

    EDGE:

Myles Garrett is out with a concussion. The travel to London accelerated the window for improvement and the Browns chose to be cautious. Hopefully, he'll return after the Week 9 bye.
    DEFENSIVE LINE:
Stephon Tuitt was ruled out early this week. This will be his second missed game with his back injury. The Steelers may be looking ahead to the Week 9 bye and hoping the extra two weeks further aids Tuitt's recovery.

Muhammad Wilkerson played last week and was more productive than he had been after continued missed time with multiple injuries. He's likely to play again this week.
    LINEBACKER:
Luke Kuechly cleared concussion protocol and will play this week.
Reuben Foster is battling a rib injury and was limited in practice. The 49ers expect him to play.
Duke Riley is out with a knee injury. It could be a multiple week recovery.
Dont'a Hightower was moved to injured reserve with a pectoral tendon tear. Mason Foster will have surgery to repair a torn labrum and will miss the rest of the season.
    DEFENSIVE BACK:
Ronald Darby is nearing full recovery. He's listed questioanble but Doug Pederson strongly hinted Darby was not yet in football shape. Next week is likely, but the Eagles have a Week 10 bye that may prompt continued reconditioning.
The Bills are likely to be without E.J. Gaines (already ruled out) and Jordan Poyer (GTD, but doubtful).
Kurt Coleman, Adam Jones, Kevin Johnson, and Josh Norman are all likely to return.

    Sunday Update

CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey to lose a few snaps?

Source: The Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey may cede a bit of work on passing downs moving forward to Cameron Artis-Payne, as head coach Ron Rivera expressed concern about the rookie's continued ability to hold up against linebackers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rivera's main concern was about McCaffrey getting used as a blocker when he's in as a receiver. Artis-Payne may take a few snaps away from the talented rookie, but we don't see that making a huge dent in McCaffrey's fantasy value.

DEN - RB Jamaal Charles ready to play

    Source: NFL

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury) fully participated in practice Saturday, Oct. 28, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos have been talking for weeks about getting Charles more involved. He wants to 'take the training wheels off' as he said earlier in the week. Charles is ready to do more, and this matchup against his former team on Monday would be a perfect time to do that. We've got him as a flex-worthy player for fantasy owners in Week 8.

KC - RB Charcandrick West on track to play

    Source: Chiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (concussion) fully participated in practice Saturday, Oct. 28, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West is going to play a change-of-pace role for the Chiefs behind Kareem Hunt. The Broncos sometimes struggle with pass-catching backs, so West is a 'what the heck' flex in Week 8.

CIN - WR John Ross not expected to be limited

    Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross (knee) is not expected to have a snap count against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Katherine Terrell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ross won't be limited, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect the speedy rookie to do much. Even against a bad Colts defense, Ross is just a 'what the heck' flex in Week 8.

BUF - Buffalo has no plans to cut WR Anquan Boldin

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane said the Bills have no plans of releasing WR Anquan Boldin from his contract if they are not able to move him before the trade deadline.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Boldin wants to play....just not in Buffalo. The Bills own his rights even though Boldin wasn't with the team for two weeks before deciding to call it quits. They've allowed him to try to find a trade partner before next Tuesday's trade deadline.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders questionable for Week 8

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle) has yet to practice and is listed as questionable on the injury report for Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanders is likely to be a game-time decision on Monday night. Fantasy owners shouldn't plan on Sanders playing in Week 8. That leads to more bracket coverage for Demaryius Thomas. The Broncos offense is reeling after getting shutout against the Chargers in Week 7. Things could be rocky on the road in Arrowhead Stadium this week.

NE - QB Tom Brady chucking it deep

    Source: Pro Football Focus

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady leads the league with 18 deep completions (passes completed 20 yards beyond the line of scrimmage), one more than second-place Alex Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs and five more than third-place Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady is 4th in the league in passes attempted 20 yards or more downfield as 14.5 percent of his passes meet that distinction. The league average for such passes is 10.6 percent. As Brady is launching more passes deep, we're seeing a better connection with WR Brandin Cooks.

TB - QB Jameis Winston nursing multiple injuries

    Source: JoeBucsFan.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston (shoulder) suffered a bruise deltoid muscle in his throwing shoulder and aggravated the AC joint sprain in the same shoulder in Week 7 versus the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Winston is banged up, but he's got an interesting matchup against the Panthers in Week 8. The Buccaneers defense leaves a lot to be desired and if they allow Cam Newton and the Panthers to jump out to a lead, then Winston could come back at them with the Tampa passing attack. He's a QB1 for fantasy owners on Sunday.

CIN - QB Andy Dalton trending up

    Source: ESPN.com

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton has thrown multiple touchdowns in three of the four games since Bill Lazor was named the offensive coordinator.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lazor was named offensive coordinator on September 15th, and since then we've seen more from Dalton. The game where he didn't have multiple touchdowns was in Week 5 against the Bills, and Dalton had over 300 yards passing. Dalton could top 300 yards this week against a Colts secondary that always gets picked on, allowing 301 yards per game which is the 2nd-worst in the NFL this season.

    Monday Update

NE - WR Chris Hogan scheduled for MRI

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan (shoulder) is scheduled for an MRI on Monday, Oct. 30, for the injury he suffered in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers, a source said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hogan was holding his arm motionless and close to his body when he left the field. We might not find out much during the bye, but we certainly shouldn't count on him to be available in Week 10.

OAK - RB DeAndre Washington totals 84 yards, TD

    Source: The Associated Press

Oakland Raiders RB DeAndre Washington rushed six times for a team-high 26 yards in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills and he added a team-best eight receptions for 62 yards and a score.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Most of Washington's numbers came in garbage time, so don't get too excited. Both he and Jalen Richard had a fumble, so Marshawn Lynch should be the lead back once at Miami next week.

OAK - QB Derek Carr posts 313 yards, TD

    Source: The Associated Press

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 31 of his 49 pass attempts for 313 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Carr was able to ring up some yards and his touchdown pass once the Bills opened up a 20-point lead, but he and the Raiders offense had too many turnovers to hang in this one. They are basically in must-win to keep playoff hopes alive mode heading into Miami next week.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor accounts for two scores

    Source: The Associated Press

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor completed 20 of his 27 pass attempts for 165 yards, one touchdown while rushing for another score in Week 8 against the Oakland Raiders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor was very smart with the ball and managed the game very well for the Bills. He will continue to have a solid fantasy floor despite his anonymous cast of receivers heading into a Thursday night game with the Jets.

NO - RB Mark Ingram has up and down game

    Source: NFL.com

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries against the Chicago Bears in Week 8 but also lost two fumbles during the game. Ingram also caught six passes for 24 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We will see if the Saints continue to lean on Ingram late in games after his pair of fumbles, but he is still getting goal line carries and a ton of receptions. He's a strong RB1 with some risk if the fumbles continue heading into a home game with Tampa.

NYJ - WR Robby Anderson surpasses 100-yard mark

    Source: NFL.com

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson caught six passes for 104 yards and one touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson had his biggest game of the year and appears to be developing a good enough connection with Josh McCown to be quality boom/bust wide receiver depth heading into a Thursday game against Buffalo.

CAR - QB Cam Newton leads team in rushing

    Source: The Associated Press

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 18 of his 32 pass attempts for 154 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he had a team-high 44 rushing yards on 11 attempts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton has leveled off as a mediocre fantasy quarterback again. He has a favorable matchup at home against Atlanta next week, but he's not a sure QB1 going forward.

NYJ - QB Josh McCown throws for 257 yards

    Source: NFL.com

New York Jets QB Josh McCown went 26-for-33 for 257 yards and two touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCown has been an efficient and effective quarterback all year. If not for two missed field goals, he might have gotten a win in this one. He faces the underrated Bills defense on Thursday and is a viable start with six teams on bye.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs quiet in Week 8

    Source: NFL.com

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs caught four passes for 27 yards against the Cleveland Browns in Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Diggs had one long catch overturned by replay and was not seen by Case Keenum while he was open downfield at least once. He'll be healthier after the bye, but might be catching passes from Teddy Bridgewater. Consider Diggs a WR2/WR3 coming out of his bye in two weeks.

CLE - RB Isaiah Crowell collects 118 all-purpose yards

    Source: NFL.com
Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell had 64 rushing yards on 11 carries in Week 8's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, along with four receptions for 54 receiving yards.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Crowell had a long touchdown run to open the game and also had a long catch and run reception to account for most of his fantasy day. While he finally came through on most fantasy team's benches, this game isn't necessarily a sign he should be back in our circle of trust after the bye.

I am guessing (and that is all it is) that Elliott will play this entire season uninterrupted and then serve suspension first 6 games of next year. Look for his lawyers to file appeal today within the 24-hour allowable window buying Zeke at least another week (or maybe a few) and keep rinse and repeating until dropping appeal during off-season.
