Arkansas Punt Block - Bad Play

Just a thought on that Ohio State "hang on" victory..

After the game was over one of the announcers said that you "cant really blame" that player who FELL on the ball instead of picking it up. (forget his name)

    But.. Yes you can..

Anyone who's played the game knows to NEVER fall on a blocked punt because whether you get it or not it is your ball due to the fact it is 4th down. So... you are always taught to try and pick the ball up and run.. NEVER to fall on it.

So this was a bad play and really was the last in a string of bad plays by the Razorbacks..

    The Shiz

your real bitch should be the decision to punt down 5 on OSU's 40 with 5 minutes left. You really should have tried the LONG fg attempt to be down 2. That ARK kicker was BOOMING his kicks.

It was a bad play but bad plays happen... bad calls happen... bad decisions happen... it's life.

It's easy to lay blame from your computer with your cheetos beside you.

ARK can look back and "what if" themselves to death over all the missed opportunities. The game was their's for the taking and they let it slip through their fingers.

Would you have rather had an Ohio St. player pick it up and run for a first down? The guy doesn't have eyes in the back of his helmet.

Why not blame the defense who let OSU get ahead 21-7 to start with?

Such short sightedness .... "teams" put themselves in that position, not the QB with 1 pass with seconds left on the clock

Arkansas defense was horrible thats where the blame lies

Run the ball.....don't fall down if you can see all the way to the end zone.

you cant expect the kid to realize that its there ball at that point whether he recovers it or not. its just instinct to make sure he ends up with the ball

yes it was a terrible decision to fall on the ball especially with a convoy behind him to assure a TD. but in the end arkansas had a number of opportunities to go ahead, i thought arkansas were not themselves offensively most of the night never got settled down....but that last minute left me speechless they should have tried a draw instead of dropping back on 1st and 2nd down it played into the hands of the defense they got too predictable i was disappointed in the playcalling there this is one of the few times an SEC team has let me down over the yrs a memorable game in a painful way forget this one quickly boys or itll carry over to more losses

testiment to the ineptness of the announcers to never realize exactly what the original poster has said, even high school players are trained to not fall on punts. ends up costing them the game, along with countless other mistakes, ark could not catch or tackle and what was mallet doing on the last interception ? why even throw it for maybe a 3 yd. gain ?

Coaching stuff is to blame for Ark blunder on blocked punt. They have to remind players every time in such situation to scoop up the ball because many players are playing defense and offense, and in tense moment they always act in instinct, just like the Stanford player caught the pass for safety.

it was just the icing on the cake for a poorly played game.
all the drops and mistakes cost them the game along with the O-line getting dominated in the 1st half.

Exactly, last time there was a loose ball in the game a buckeye snatched it right out of three Arkansas player's hands for a TD.

The real problem for Arkansas was poor coaching and inconsistency. Why woudl you go for a fourth and one on your own 35-40 yard line in the first quarter when you're down seven? Who knows, but that soon turn into down 14 and the 21 by the half. After that their playing catch up and buckeyes were playing speed the clock down. Their QB can't win the game himself.

Arkansas didn't play a perfect season and didn't play a near perfect game. they look like a powerhouse to play in the sec next year. They didn't do Arkansas any shame.

Typical SEC stupid football players...and coaching for that matter. The "conference of God" is now 3-5 ATS....whereby the media's punching bag Big 10 is now 5-3 ATS.

And the worst safety call I've seen in over 50 years of watching football. Thank God the team that got hosed still won the game.
