i think his only chance of winning is GSP getting injured during the fight or getting DQ

I think Shields will do much better than anyone expects. He will take GSP down.

i`ve seen shields gas and hang on in some fights....if he can`t sub gsp early,he`ll get worn down.....

shields hands are (honestly) about as bad as i`ve seen in mma...the one bully beatdown show i watched he struggled doing anything in stand-up with a guy off the street...

but i guess that`s a testament to the guy`s grappling ability....

this is one fight i hope goes to the ground...

Kos took GSP down in the 1st round (both fights) but abandoned his gameplan to wing right hands and eat jabs. Shields knows he can't strike, he will shoot relentlessly. GSP has no wrestling background.

You don't need wrestling when you're corner is rubbing your body with vaseline.

No shot. It's silly to even think he has a chance. Hasn't lost in 6 years, 15 fights, blah blah. He has no standup which has been pointed out already, therefore the small chance others have he does not. save your money.

Yes that's true but he has been awarded some gift decisions most notably the W against Yushin Okami in Hawaii. Easily one of the worst decisions I have ever seen, and it's up there with the Fedor/Arona fight. Still anything can happen, Matt Serra beat GSP once.

GSP's only real weakness is his chin, which is irrelevant against shields.

His chin is fine, his primary issue was that he needed to keep his hands up while back peddling. If you can get GSP to back up, then you've got a chance to land that KO punch. That's how Matt Serra was able to beat him.

Go watch the Shields/Okami fight and then honestly say that was a good decision by the judges. I try not be someone who goes screaming bad decision, or fix, every time I don't agree with the judges opinion but I genuinely feel that Okami won that fight.

Yea you seriously have to take a look at a good fighter like Shields at +400. But how does he win, theres little chance he KO's GSP.

If you look at his more notable submission wins they come against stand up fighter like Daley/Lawler/ Thompson. He hasn't been able to submit guys who have a clue on the ground like Kampman/Henderson/Miller/Condit. GSP has some BJJ, so i doubt he'll sub him

this leaves a decison win, can he do to GSP what he did to Miller/Henderson. Win 3 of 5 rounds taking GSP down and controlling the fight that way. I doubt it. Are Jake's takedown that much better than Hughes/Fitch/Koscheck, I don't think so.

only way gsp loses is if he looks past shields as an easy fight like his first fight with serra

hmm i wonder if shields can take down gsp. gsp has amazing offensive wrestling but his defensive wrestling hasnt been seen much lately.

i need to rewatch the fitch fight.

if gsp was able to stop fitch's tds than i think the answer is obvious. gsp will win this anywhere he wants.

shields is nothing special, I thought he lost the last fight to Kampmann...but I knew the judges would give it to him since it was his UFC debut, and all the hype coming from strikeforce. He will get killed vs gsp.

Kos took GSP down, BJ took GSP down, Shields will take GSP down. No question. Will he be able to take him down enough to win 3/5 rounds is the question. I think so. Shields will take a lot of punishment but I think he will get it done. Hes taken down actual wrestlers like Askren and Sonnen.

When GSP was young and Matt Hughes was in his prime, I think Hughes subed GSP rather easily in an armbar. Just a note.
However, GSP is in his prime and obviously do not see that happening again anytime soon. But anything can happen.

I got to be completely honest, the more I breakdown film of Shields, the more I hate the guy. It's the young Matt Linland.

i think most are forgetting footwork and striking utilizing footwork. gsp has a huge advantage here. as rocky said jake lacks striking and his footwork only suggests forward takedowns, i have to beleive gsp can circle, come in and out, back peddle along striking effectively, stuffing takedowns and most importantly striking and moving to generate takedowns. i just feel gsp has more weapons and tools to neutralize jake. gsp has the advantage i believe in cardio and 5 round game plans. shields may be in deep trouble if gsp is able to utilize a gameplan early. either way great fight on the table.

Yeah this seems like the most likely scenario. GSP has been going back to his roots and working on his karate for this fight which suggests he's looking to implement a Machida like elusiveness strategy

I think we could see GSP end this fight with a KO, surprisingly enough. He may open up his striking game a bit more because he wont fear shields hands.
