I'm looking at 5dimes and I see that the Reds are +950 to take the NL Pennant. I know they had a great season last year. I just don't see them as a premier team. You have the Cards and Brew crew in the same division and on paper I believe that both are better teams. As it pertains to odds, I also see Braves and Rockies as stronger teams and the bookmakers seem to prefer the Reds. What am I missing? Is it just because of the success of the Reds last year?
If this season were to be replayed 10 times, I would say there is something like a 50/50 chance the Reds win the pennant at least once. I wouldn't take the bet, as I don't see much value, but if I were an optimistic reds fan, I wouldn't say it's an awful bet.
