How fat is CC Sabathia ?

not my write-up...by RX poster Sherwood....

    Game 4 (4:05 PM EST)
    Texas +1.64 over N.Y. YANKEES
A rematch of game-1. CC Sabathia is hoping to rebound from a poor outing while Texas hopes CJ Wilson can match his Sterling performance to open the series. Sabathia has thrown 237 innings this year, he threw 230 last season and he threw 253 innings in ’08. That’s a lot of miles and with a dumpster-fire bullpen behind him he probably figures ne needs to be near flawless. Other signs of fatigue: Sabathia’s game one first-pitch-strike percentage was under 50%. His career FPS mark is around 60%, and it was a tad lower this year at 58%. In the disastrous Ranger first, he threw just two first-pitch strikes and seven first-pitch balls. He threw 34 pitches, only 14 of them strikes (41%), and walked three, including a four-pitch walk and a five-pitch walk. In three of Sabathia’s last four starts he’s allowed 15 earned runs in 15.1 innings. Sabathia is 30-years old and he’s about 40 pounds overweight and while he’s certainly capable of throwing a gem, all signs point to that not likely happening. There are more reason to play against the Yanks. Through the first four games, Texas hitters have a combined .926 OPS. Five players (Cruz, Hamilton, Molina, Murphy and Treanor) are over 1.000. The Yanks were at .616 OPS, with Cano at 1.633, SS Derek Jeter at .871, and no other regular over .652. Four different Rangers have homered, but only 2B Robinson Cano, with three, has any swats for the Yankees. C.J. Wilson faced 27 Yankees in game-1 and threw first-pitch strikes to 21 of them – a 62% rate nicely up from his customary 55%-ish level. On the road this year, Wilson has thrown 89.2 frames and allowed 63 hits for a BAA of .201 and a road ERA of 2.91. He was an AL top-ten starter in many categories including wins, ERA and complete games. So, while you can never count the Yanks out, the fact is they look like a beaten team and you would have to be somewhat out of your mind to lay –1.75 with them today. Say goodbye to the New York Yankees and say goodbye to free-agent Derek Jeter in a Yankee uniform too. Play: Texas +1.64 (Risking 2 units).

    SAN FRANCISCO +1.00 over Philadelphia
I was debating on this one for a while but have not written it up yet and I do apologize. However, for the record, I'm playing the Giants also.
    (Risking 2 units).

CC is listed at 6-7 and 290 lbs. I bet he is closer to 350- 400 lbs !

Brian is being kind with 40 lbs overweight, IMO.

He might be the heaviest baseball player ever ? I can't think of anybody else.

It's odd that he seems to do well in heat. Fat people prefer it cool in my experience.

he is not 350-400. Most athletes have a weight restriction in their contract and guys that have weight problems usually have to stay under a certain number.

at least football players with weight problems have to pay a fine every week they are overweight. They get weighed weekly and it's in their contract as to what their playing weight should be. Baseball may be different.

that may be true, but they will not pay for a guy that can't stay in shape. Sports contracts have lots of restrictions.

the Rock is 6'6 and only 275, and he is all muscle. Muscle weighs much more than fat, so i believe CC at around 300, he has regular sized legs.

somewhere right around 300. He's not that fat. Got a gut and big ass. The big ass is good for a pitcher. The guy is 6'7.

He could also dunk on you, outrun you, and strike you out.

So is the heaviest dude to ever play MLB ?

CC has to be near the top.

I doubt any regular position player ever weighed 300 ? Has to be a pitcher.

So I guess 6-7 and about 250-260 would be inline with the estimates. A guy like Tyson was very fit at around 6' ( if that) and 215 but that was a muscle boxer. I'd say 6' and 215 is fattish for the average guy..more like 180 would work for most.

CC is still young, he could easily get heavier. I don't like his contract....reminds me of David Wells.

Wells could have been a HOF'er if was conditioned and trained properly and a 300 game winner. He pitched until he was like 43.

Wells was like the the John Daly of Baseball...I'd likely be of the same attitude....sadly !

What are your thoughts on Silver, lately, Mr. L ?

BTW , you are one of the coolest posters I've ever met. We agree on a lot of stuff. I could easily see you becoming a great personal friend of mine if I moved to your hood ( not likely). You're LA or at least So/Cal, right ?

nonsense. Baseball has a rich history of fat slobs playing ball. See Kruk, John, and his comment about baseball players being "athletes."

Do you need to be fit to play pitcher in the American League? Remember pitchers don't bat.

    I'd guess he's around 325.

He hasn't been at his listed weight of 290 in years.

    That number doesn't get updated.

He was listed at 290 about four years ago.

    Not even close.

More like 6'2, 215, and even when he was heavy, he never got above 260.

At the beginning of his career, he was 6'2 and weighted 195.
