Yes and no.
In the past Texas has been reluctant to open the checkbook, they made it clear that this off season they were going to spend.

You can make a case either way for this deal.
If Jake breaks down, it's money flushed down the crapper, if healthy and makes 28 to 34 starts, he's not just a game changer but a pennant changer.

I don’t love the signing but one thing to keep in mind about the Rangers:

Only one team (Marlins) lost more 1-run games in 2022 than the Rangers.

So it’s not a stretch for the Rangers to have a vastly improved overall Win-Loss record next year.

If the Mets offered three years WITH a two year CLUB option I bet Jake stays with NY
Reason being if he stays in NY and had three consecutive quality seasons, say 80 starts, 55 wins ERA say 2.40, he could probably make out better at age 33 proving he can stay healthy.

Like I said earlier, IF Jake can stay healthy from 2023-2025, put up the numbers I just mentioned, get Texas to just one WS, and deep run in anther postseason, then the backend of that contract is paid for, regardless.

I love Heyman, I've actually had a couple of online social media chats with him, great baseball journalist.

Now, let me make myself clear, I am playing devils advocate here, I can, and have make valid cases for both sides of that enormous contract.

When healthy, Jake is the best starting pitcher since Pedro, but gun to head if I were a GM, and I have played the game of baseball from age to 8 to 22, and a student of analytics, I probably would not because of the health concerns, BUT, if he stays heathy, that contract is a bargain.

But, like Heyman says, that money is probably best spent elsewhere.
As a baseball junkie, I'll try to watch most of deGrom's starts this season, Texas faces that Astro lineup 16 times this year and Trout/Otani's Angels 17 times, should be interesting.

Love deGrom, had a lot of fun watching him pitch for the Mets but he was basically worthless last two seasons. If you want to be paid hundreds of millions of dollars you should be on the field not sitting at home for half a season every year. I am glad they didn't resign him because who knows if this is going to happen year in and year out. Wish him well because he seems to be a great dude and obviously when healthy is one of the greatest.

Bochy is one of the best managing a rotation and clubhouse. He commands respect in that clubhouse with his four pennants and three ws championships, so as the rangers continue to add arms, they will be a fascinating club in '23 to watch. And how Bochy manages degrom's innings in '23

Rosenthal said on his podcast yesterday the Judge sweepstakes is down to two teams Giants and Yankees.
Mets (from what I've read recently) want to spend on ancillary pieces to fill voids, I know NYM are interested in Brandon Drury, IMO, that would be a nice sign, Drury is one of those 'Swiss Army Knife" versatile infielders, and he has a decent stick too.
