    Oakland A's....To Las Vegas A's?

    On Tuesday, Major League Baseball and the Oakland Athletics both released statements saying the franchise will start looking to relocate if the city of Oakland doesn’t make progress soon on a new baseball stadium for the A’s. The MLB has been working with the A’s to try to get a deal done with Oakland on a new stadium for the past 15 years.




    Jeff Passan of ESPN was the first to report the story on Tuesday, stating that the leading candidate to land the A’s is Las Vegas. Although adding that plenty of other cities would also welcome the team.


    Of course, the Raiders and the A’s shared the Oakland Coliseum from 1968 (sans when the Raiders were in Los Angeles from 1982-94) until the Raiders moved to Las Vegas in 2019 after not being able to secure a new stadium deal in Oakland. They were the last NFL and MLB teams to share a stadium. The NBA’s Golden State Warriors moved from Oakland to downtown San Francisco in 2019.
    Now the A’s may be on the move and they could end up in Vegas, which would further cement the city as a major sports town. The NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights became the first pro sports team in Las Vegas in 2017. There has also been talk of the NBA bringing a team to the Strip — and of course, Raiders owner Mark Davis recently bought the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA.

    First LV gets the Raiders, then the A's and then Vegas will ultimately turn into the same kind of city as Oakland.

    Can’t blame them. That stadium is piss. Oakland isn’t a top tier destination at all. The team doesn’t draw dick, dregs of society everywhere, taxes through the roof, nobody gives a damn, etc... come on down to Las Vegas! We will fill the stadium up and throw a party while doing it.

    MLB actually wants Oakland to keep them. I think this is just a power play to pressure the local government to finally pass something. They like to keep cities like LV, Nashville, and Charlotte in their back pocket to invoke pressure.

    This will sound odd to people that mostly come to Vegas to drink/gamble/party but Vegas off strip in Summerlin, Henderson, Southern Highlands/Anthem and some other spots are incredibly community and family focused. I’ve lived here a long time. We do love the community. Go Knights Go!

    I find it more family focused than Phoenix/Scottsdale and on par with many places in the Midwest. The community revolves around youth sports, your local parks, church and Friday Night Lights. Highly interconnected and would be a good fit. Not sure if the team would work because we have the Las Vegas Aviators here in a brand new stadium in Summerlin and they sell out but Vegas a super family oriented/Mormon/Jewish/Multicultural/Asian-Pacific community. Lots of cash off strip too... of course there are trash people everywhere.

    Also, many many many people from Northern California that moved here to escape that dump. Should be interesting.
