Meanwhile, he retains his shutout through 6 innings. He got wobbly that inning, but he's still allowed, what, 2 hits in 6 innings. If that's going to shit...

But yeah, Cubs need to add on here soon, for sure. 2 runs probably not enough.

Arrieta must be on the clutch strain of steroids.

Home from work. Looks like Arrieta got out of some jams and the Pirates bullpen stinks.

First time Pirates shutout this season? Wow, that's surprising. Not surprising Arrieta did it. He owns them so bad. Gotta be in their heads.

    LOL.

Meanwhile, Arrieta shuts down another top offense.

I know most are impressed by Kershaw (and for good reason) but Kershaw pitches against the easiest lineups in baseball almost every time out. Arrieta has been doing it against the best all year. Give the man some credit, he's the 2nd best pitcher in baseball and #3 is very far back.

He gets it done. Arrieta's issue, if that, is that he's tightly wound. When it's all in coordination, and it usually is, he's a nasty beast. But if he gets off-kilter, he can get wild. He has an uncanny ability though to turn it around and make big pitches in big situations though. Ice in the veins. His composure and strong-mindedness is the best in the game.

People who say his stuff is falling off are not paying attention. His stuff is getting better. It just gets slightly out of whack on rare occasions and for short periods.

He purposely falls off to the third base side of the rubber so he can hide the ball better. This can cause his mechanics to get out of line.

It's also what causes him to be so damn good most of the time. And it's why he'll post consecutive sub-2 ERA seasons, joining only Koufax, Maddux and Kershaw.
