Basically every team still alive for the playoffs. Kansas City and the Angels the only two "locks" for the post-season imo. Astros will likely be there but not a lock in the slightest. I think their could be a nice longshot come out of the AL this year, and possibly win it all. Im not sure of the current odds on each of these teams, but I know they were recently in the vicinity posted...
Kansas City was 48-50 last year around this point and ended a game from winning it all. A few longshots I like to make a possible run:
Indians (last I saw +3300 to win WS): After a horrid start which saw them with the worst record in the AL after the first month this team is back within 3 games of .500. They had the best starting rotation last year in the AL after the All Star break, and ended up with 85 wins despite a record breakingly bad defense and an anemic offense. Team is very similar again this year but they have a great manager who knows how to get his teams to turn it on late in the year. If they can get over .500 before the trade deadline they could go get a right handed power hitter to really improve the middle of that order. This is what they have desperately needed. If Tampa slips, don't be surprised to see Evan Longoria filling in a huge hole at 3rd base and the cleanup spot.
BlueJays (last I saw +2250 to win WS): In a new league made of pitching and small ball, this Jays team hits like its 1998. Far and away the leagues more potent offense. Although they struggle at times vrs good pitching this team can outscore any one at any time. Their starting pitching has actually been respectable lately, but that bullpen is shaky at best. Any Jays fans out there tell me if there's any promising young starters they could bring up for the stretch run?
Twins (last I saw around +3000 to win WS): Everyone's preseason worst team in the league team is currently 8 games over .500. They beat left handed pitching and have beaten the best of the best starters in the AL. I still dont believe in this team but they have been proving me wrong all season long so far and it doesnt look like they are going away. They always seem to score enough runs depsite not being a great hitting team... and the pitching staff is less than sexy. They dont pass the eye test, they don't have eye popping numbers, they just win. And at the end of the day thats all that matters.
There are three teams I think have a shot at making a run to the postseason. AL is wide wide open this yerar... we could easily see a long shot come out of the AL and win it all. If its not Kansas City, then who?
