Ex-Cub Mark Grace gets jail time for DUI

Former Cubs first baseman and Arizona Diamondbacks television analyst Mark Grace was sentenced to four months in jail after pleading guilty Thursday to felony endangerment and misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.
A Maricopa County Superior Court spokesman says Grace will be allowed out of jail for work while he serves the sentence beginning Feb. 10.

Court spokesman Vincent Funari says the sentence also includes two years of probation.
The 48-year-old former first baseman with the Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs was fired after he was arrested last August in Scottsdale — his second drunken driving arrest in 15 months.
Grace had pleaded not guilty in October to four felony counts of aggravated DUI and was scheduled to go on trial March 19.

    No sympathy.
    a) he has a boatload of money, he didn't have to drive.
    b) should have learned his lesson the first time.

This is sad, man. Guy is a victim of the state he lives in.

Arizona is tragically over-zealous of their DUI enforcement.

Obviously, his fault yada yada - but if he lives in the other 90% of this country where this is enforced differently and Mark Grace never has a problem.

    I liked him too.
Most hits in the decade of the 90's (good trivia question)

Only part of the country that is stricter on DUI's is Nassau County, Long Island, NY

Explain further if you can. DUI kills thousands each year. What is wrong with tough law enforcement?

Does it Kill more or Less per capita with harsher law enforcement? As in, am I safer on the streets of Arizona as a Driver than I would be in any other part of the country?

    Doubtful.

AZ is a prison state. DUI is just one of the tragically over-enforced laws out here to keep the money flowing.

Yeah AZ is a conservative state. Think Sheriff Joe and his outdoor prison. But yes I believe if someone knows the Police will be patrolling for DUI, they may make proper arrangements if they are going to drink. 2 DUI's in 15 months? He is lucky he did not kill someone and doing more time. MY take.

I'm not sure any state or city could over enforce DUI laws. I bet only 1 out of 1000 people that drive legally intoxicated even get pulled over. Maybe you think the laws are too punitive, but IMO because so many can and do get away with the laws have to be tougher to try to tip the risk/reward scales

I am not arguing that DUI is or is not bad.

I am saying he has no issue (or is less likely to have one) if he didn't live here (AZ).

It's not by coincidence that "public people" get time in this state regularly.

It'll get reduced to 10 days and then after a couple days it'll be time served, hefty fine, unsupervised probation.

Damn this sucks. He was a bad ass announcer. I used to love laying a few notes on the late Dback games and hearing Gracie's tell it like it is style announcing. There goes his announcing career.
