ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that right-hander Doug Mathis (0-1, 1.64 ERA in 11 games, including one start) will start instead of right-hander Vicente Padilla. Padilla, who has swine flu, was deemed unready to pitch tonight against the Detroit Tigers. Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said the team's clubhouse was sanitized Monday and that players and team personnel are taking Tamiflu medication as a precaution.
