Cain on plunking Holliday: “If one gets away, one gets away”

Giants ace Matt Cain said on the FOX broadcast of NLCS Game 2 that he felt Matt Holliday‘s takeout slide into the left knee of Marco Scutaro was “late.” Cain will start in Game 3 on Wednesday in St. Louis, and may or may not have retaliation on his mind.
This comes via CSN Bay Area’s Andrew Baggarly:

Cain said he won't be timid about throwing inside to Holliday, but only as part of plan to get him out. "If one gets away, one gets away."

Scutaro has been diagnosed with a hip muscle strain and will be a game-time decision on Wednesday.

    1) If Cain wants to retaliate, fine, better to keep his fat mouth shut about it though.
    2) Late slide? Yes, Intent to injure? Hardly. It's a hard baseball play.
    3) Both men go about 6'4" 230 lbs or so, but Matt is a big boy, and could crush Cain one on one. I'd like to see that, but it would go down like this, Cain with a heater under the chin, Matt takes a step to the mound, nanci-boi Poser, I mean Posey steps in, and everybody does a cha-cha-cha Texas two step.

    Everybody's doing their job.

I am good with all of it.

Would be disappointed with anything less.

    But you are correct IMO.

    Shut up and play.

    Don't talk about it.

Why talk about? Just do it. And the fact they think Holliday gives a fukk either way is the most amusing part of the story.

SF Giants bitch and moan too much.
Sabean is still crying over Cousin's collision at home plate on Buster Poser. That was a clean baseball play too.
Too bad Buster broke his leg, not like he was intending too, what Cousins was trying to do was score a baseball run, not to see if he can break limbs. Bochy and Posey need to get over that too, it's been like 18 months already.

Only thing cool about SF is Panda and Timmy, rest are a bunch of whiners.

in all fairness and this coming from a born and raised stl fan,,,if shoe would have been on other foot stl would be throwing a fit as we love to bitch and whine!!!! that said holliday wasnt being dirty, he may have started slide late but he not a dirty player, he does slide hard and is a big man so once that gets going watch out, he did slide late as well but think that was more cause way he went in he needed extra step not to hurt himself, lol...hell he already paid them back by turning a single into a 3 run double, they shouldnt hate holiday just keep hitting ball at him and he will fukk up, lol...

cain better hit someone first or warnings will be given and sf will not get to retaliate (without ejections anyway)

Umpire can toss Cain without a warning though

true, but I think ump will allow a retaliation shot here, I think if Cain hits someone he will stay in and warnings will be given. Just my guess.

Cousins went out of the baseline deliberately to target Posey. He was not going for homeplate.

As for Cain, it's just stupid to say this.

I'd bet that the umpires don't toss anyone without a warning. Playoff games are too important.

Lohse better not throw at Cain.

Don't want to put .127 career hitter on base (.350 career OPS, roughly 2012 A-Rod).

Yeah, Matt, one of your pitches might get away from you; you're not perfect, after all. Things like this happen. You just never know when a hitter might take a swing, lose his grip and the bat comes zinging out toward the mound.

Stop the clip at exactly 1:25.
Stone cold pause this you tube clip there.

    1) Appears to me Cousins head is down, he's chugging toward the plate, full out.
    2) Appears to me he has no idea if Posey has the ball or not.
    3) Appears to me Cousins is running right on the base line.

Now, you could argue, and I might even agree with you, that at the 1:51 mark,Cousins launches a flying shoulder block at Posey, which is questionable, but there is nothing in the rule book that says you can't launch like that. I get what Sabean tried to do, get a rule implicated preventing that going forward, but it's baseball.

hell go look at a pirate/stl gm this year,,couldnt tell you which one, think early aug, def in pit,,one of buccos lit yadi up like a xmas tree, rung his bell pretty good, think he missed few gms with concussion but what happened to posey was very flukish as his leg just got caught...it is crazy how these guys are allowed to unload on a catcher like that, i mean to a degree but you asking for a little trouble with way rule is now, guys gonna get bell rung from time to time, fun to watch tho....

I used to catch in college. I had a tree of a man put me in the ER on a play at the plate.
    Held on though
