This guy follows up two hitters with one hitters. I wouldn't be so sure this time. When it's guys like Phil Humber and Dallas Braden, yeah, automatic. But I'm not sold on the angle here.

I wouldn't advise it. Probably the most underrated pitcher in all of baseball. Finally starting to get the recognition he deserves.

He's one of the best pitchers in baseball and yet has a career win percentage of only two games over 500. It's proof that pitcher wins are one of the most overrated player stats in baseball.

In the eyes of the baseball world he is underrated, or we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Betting against Cain simply just to fade him does not sound smart to me at this time.

wouldnt call him underrated considering he has the biggest contract ever given to a RHP

didnt cain only throw 114 pitches or something? I remember thinking he didnt throw that many pitches in his perfect game... I think he is capable of bouncing back strong because of that....

pass for me. Angels offense hasn't done much recently and Jerome Williams is dogsht

If anything, lean towards San Fran. Johan did struggle against NYY bu yanks offense >>>>>>>>>>> LAA offense and Cain >>>>>>> Johan

I agree with Brahma...A small lean to the Giants. SF has lost 2 in a row to Seattle, have a decent offense facing a mediocre Williams on the mound for the Angel!

But there are ways to easily adjust for park factors when judging a pitcher. We shouldn't just say, "He pitches at a pitchers park, therefore he's overrated." His ERA+ (adjusted for park factors) is 163. The average is 100.

Wins/Losses is definitely the most useless stat to gauge pitchers by and Cain really is one of the best pitchers in baseball.

cain is below average with some of the angel bats. i wish iannetta was in the lineup but i really think angels pull this off tonight.

You're betting on a coin flip either way. Much better plays on the board than this

That's the thing though- he's not keeping anything up. He's been a really good pitcher for years, but people haven't fully realized it due to his win record as a result of low run support and being overshadowed by Lincecum winning Cy Young awards. The guy won a ring without giving up a single earned run through the entire postseason.

Of the 17 pitchers to throw a perfect game since the White Sox's Charlie Robertson in 1922, only five won their next start. The last nine - including Phil Humber, who retired all 27 hitters on April 21 - are a combined 3-4 with a 5.56 ERA following their history-making performance.
