Cole Hamels has been suspended five games and fined.

    Will begin tonight unless appealed.

he pretty much asked for it by admitting it (even though i loved that he admitted it), but like Houli said, 5-game suspension for starting pitcher is the equivalent to having a rain-out occur between starts.

So what is Hamels' position? That it's his job to plunk every rookie the first time he faces them? That's "old school" baseball?

Searched Bryce Harper, top story "
Bryce Harper, Baseball’s Teen Phenom, Delivers a Brash Message"

Teen Phenom? This kids already crowned, and Cole wanted to let him know theres gonna be adversity...but in the end, I honestly see it as a sign of respect to plunk a 19 yr old punk. You dont get intentionally hit for no reason, but this kid might be the real deal and hes gotta earn it, not let it get handed to him

Harper being a punk kid had a lot to do with it...but this did as well, no matter what anyone says:

East W L Pct GB Home Road East Cent West Streak L10
    Washington Nationals 18 10 .643 -- 12-4 6-6 6-2 8-3 4-5 Lost 1 4-6
    Atlanta Braves 18 11 .621 0.5 8-5 10-6 3-6 7-3 8-2 Won 3 6-4
    New York Mets 15 13 .536 3.0 10-6 5-7 10-5 0-3 5-5 Won 2 5-5
    Miami Marlins 14 14 .500 4.0 6-5 8-9 1-7 6-4 7-3 Won 6 7-3
    Philadelphia Phillies 14 15 .483 4.5 5-5 9-10 6-6 3-4 5-5 Won 1 5-5

Someday soon that kid will thank Hamels for hitting him..

Just like when Morneau came up as a cocky punk with the Twins, and Tori Hunter cracked him upside the head...the following year Morneau won the MVP. You can't even put a price on life-lessons such as this.

Best part was when he said he liked that the Nats threw at him and said the umps let them settle it like men.

Embarrassing that a lot of Phils fans go crazy for doc and cliff lee and not cole when cole is the one who brought the ring. They used to say he was the soft Cali boy....well it looks like he ain't so soft.

LOL, you really have a bad knack for seeing talent in baseball. Harper's approach and swing at the plate is already ridiculously good and he is 19.

his swing needs a lot of work.... second time around after seeing him once, these pitchers will own him

with that said, I like the kid and with some work, could be a very good player in this league

Game of adjustments, for sure... but one thing you can not teach is bat speed... as a lefty, sky is the limit for him with that bat speed.

Yea i dont get it... cole will always be the man in my mind. Home grown and brought a ring to this city. His lack of run support has kept him very underrated the past few years in the publics eyes. He is gonna get a monster deal... if we wanna keep him, gotta think it needs to be done before the season ends

    Agreed

The only thing he'd ever done wrong is during the ws vs the yanks he said he wished the season was over out of frustration. Phils fans took that quote and ran with it. Hopefully it's water under the bridge at this point but he's my favorite Phil by a good bit.

MLB is just trying to cover their own ass

Hamels said he intentionally tried to hurt another player. If MLB doesnt respond they could be in deep shit.

Zimmerman intentionally hit Hamels, but doesnt saying anything, therefore you cannot assume he hit him intentionally.

he said he did not try to hurt him... this was also evident by where he threw the pitch.. I see what you are saying, but he was not aiming to injure him, just as nfl players (normally) dont try to injure players when making a tackle. Just sending a message and was straight up with what he did.. I dont mind him being suspended, but its a joke that zim. wasnt as well

    Wash GM Rizzo threatens Hamels:

Read this in the Courier Post today:

"Cole Hamels says he's old school?" Rizzo told the Post. "He's the polar opposite of old school. He's fake tough. He dosn't know who he's dealing with."
