Cardinals at Mets - Aug 23rd

    Mets Too Hot For Mulder

Mark Mulder returns from the DL for the Cards tonight, just in time to face the best team in the NL, the New York Mets.

How can a pitcher have an ERA over 16 in his last 3 starts and his team be 2-1 in those games?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Mark Mulder's 2006 season. The veteran left-hander has an ERA for the year of 6.08 and yet the Cardinals have an overall record of 10-5 in his starts. Those kind of numbers just defy logic. A pitcher this bad does not deserve the run support he is obviously getting, but more power to him for getting it.

The Mets received some very good news lately as it appears that veteran left-hander Tom Glavine will not require surgery on his shoulder and he should rejoin the team's rotation in early-to-mid September. The Mets will also get Pedro Martinez back from his calf injury fairly soon and it was just reported that they have obtained outfielder Shawn Green from the Diamondbacks to fill in for the injured Cliff Floyd. That could be a huge move for New York.

Everything seems to be going right for the Mets as they won last night's game on a 9th-inning walk-off homer by Carlos Beltran. Also in that game, Carlos Delgado became the first player in history to hit a grand slam for his 400th career home run. Mets right-hander Steve Trachsel has already won 12 games this season and New York has won his last four starts.

Take the Mets. As always, good luck.

    Play: Mets -130

Trachsel has been sharp recently while Mulder is making his first start in two months. The Mets have the big edge tonight.

Be carefull in calling Trachsel sharp...
I wouldn't call giving up 6 runs or around that and getting some exlax for the offense and pulling out wins sharp.
Trachsel is the worst pitcher with that record I've ever seen.

The Mutts lineup is getting it done when he pitches, because he really is very mediocre at best (with REAL nice starts now and again...)
