Whats really crazy is that Meals called Lugo safe before he even touched home plate.
Either way it was a close play, much closer than it looked live.
just saw replay on tsn and man it looks so close that in real life kinda hard for ump to make call. obviously the ball was there a mile ahead but catcher when he swiped didnt tag him

Then use logic... catcher never made a second attempt to tag the runner even though he had ample opportunity due to the runner missing home on the slide and the second attempt. Umps should rely on all their tools to make the right call, not just their eyes. Easy fukking call.

One of the worst call I ever seen, can you imagine how pirates feel after playing 19 innings and to losing after such terrible call...
it was a close call, the tag does look like it might have brushed him. In the moment that is what the ump is seeing so he made the right judgement call.
I'm sure the "chants" for "full" instant replay will now be forthcoming...

you cannot call a runner safe until he touches home plate. if he saw the catcher's swipe tag and miss by 400 feet he cannot call him safe. the runner was nowhere near home plate when the tag was applied. that being said don't give umps too much credit, they think they are smarter than they are. their job is so simple it is ridiculous.
Umpires have been ruining the game for years. It's just usually balls and strikes. Baseball needs to get their head of out their ass and get a computer strike zone and do a review fir plays like this. It's a joke to only be able to look at home run questions. Idiots running (ruining) baseball

it is the situation that is making it worse.
it was a missed call but by no means the worst ever. he could have missed him, even in slow mo magnified it is hard to see the actual contact.
ump just wanted to go home

Funny thing = Ump was literally two feet from the play. Literally right under his nose.
One of the worst calls I think Ive ever seen in my life! Can you imagine grinding it out until the 19th inning, only to get screwed over by a "look at meeeee" umpire!
