When the Mets cut bait with Bonilla after the 1999 season, they were on the hook for $5.9 million. Instead, the Mets agreed to pay Bonilla $29.8 million between 2011 and 2035. Those annual $1,193,248.20 payments begin July 1.
Bobby is also being paid $500,000 annually by the Orioles, from a similar buyout. He also holds a position with MLBPA, as a "special assistant", which pays him $200,000 yearly. When a secretary was asked about what Bobby's job entails she said, "He just talks to players".

Safe to say that this guy is my hero. I never saw him play, and you never hear about him holding any significant records. But its safe to say that he was in the right place @ the right time. Rumor is the Mets used the money that they were initially going to pay Bobby to invest with Madoff.
Obviously that worked out well for the Mets.
And dont bash my hero Bonilla. He didnt do anything wrong. This whole fiasco is purely the work of typical Mets mismanagement.
