After contending in his debut appearance in the Masters through the weekend, Danish star Nicolai Hojgaard is among the betting favorites as we make our Corales Puntacana Championship picks based on the odds from our best golf betting sites.

The Corales Puntacana Championship is this week's alternate event in the Dominican Republic, with the PGA Tour's best competing in the RBC Heritage in the immediate wake of Scottie Scheffler's victory in the 2024 Masters.

Nicolai Hojgaard, who was on the Masters leaderboard through the weekend before a T-16 finish at 2-over par in his debut at Augusta National, is set as this week's betting favorite by the Corales Puntacana Championship odds.

Other notables in the 132-man field include Alex Noren, Billy Horschel, Daniel Berger, and past tournament champion Joel Dahmen. Matt Wallace is not back to defend his 2023 victory in the Dominican.

Here are our Corales Puntacana Championship picks based on this week's golf odds from our best sports betting sites. Don't miss our look at the RBC Heritage odds.

Corales Puntacana Championship pick to win

Doug Ghim

Ghim stumbles into the Corales Puntacana Championship off of back-to-back missed cuts in the Texas Children's Houston Open and the Valero Texas Open. After having Masters week off, he'll look to return to the form that saw him pick up four straight top 16 finishes against fields much stronger than this one.

A week of rest, relocation from Texas to the Dominican Republic, and lessened pressure from wanting to qualify for the Masters should combine for an improved showing this week. Ghim ranks among the field leaders in strokes gained: approach and SG: tee-to-green, and he's been one of the most accurate drivers over everyone's last 20 rounds.

Ghim tied for 16th last year in just his second career appearance in this event.

These market-best +3000 odds from BetMGM would return an extra $50 in profit on a winning $10 bet vs. the +2500 odds offered elsewhere.

Joel Dahmen to finish top 10

It's rare to find an opportunity to bet on Dahmen following his rise to superstardom with his appearances on Netflix's "Full Swing." But we have one this week, and in an alternate-field event at that.

Though Dahmen didn't qualify for the Masters and has slumped to No. 163 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) off of missed cuts in the Houston Open and Valero Texas Open, his T-11 finish in The Players Championship is what we're targeting this week. That, and Dahmen's return to the event he won in 2021.

Dahmen's approach play and driver have been in excellent form. We just need him to be a little closer to average with his putter and short game. We're hoping the familiar setting helps with that.

How to bet on golf

To bet on golf effectively, understand the various bet types available and how to evaluate player performance. Start by familiarizing yourself with common bets like outright winners, each-way bets (covering both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups, and prop bets for specific tournament events, such as hole-in-one occurrences or player performances on certain holes.

Once you've chosen your preferred bet types, conduct thorough research on players, course conditions, recent form, and other relevant factors that may impact outcomes. Consider player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that could affect a player's chances of success. This information will help you make informed betting decisions and increase your chances of success in golf betting.
