NC State vs. Georgia Tech Prediction & Picks Tonight: College Football Week 13

Last updated: November 21, 2024 4:34 PM EST • 5 min read X Social Google News Link

The NC State Wolfpack will visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in an ACC clash on Thursday night.
The Yellow Jackets are fresh off an upset of Miami, in which they handed the Hurricanes and Heisman Trophy odds mid-tier contender Cam Ward their first loss of the season. They're also rested after enjoying a bye, and there aren't many concerns of a letdown as part of our NC State vs. Georgia Tech prediction.
The Yellow Jackets have produced a 4-1 record at Bobby Dodd Stadium, which is where Thursday night’s 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN) game will be played. That includes three 10-plus-point wins, so it wasn't surprising to see them entering the week as 8.5-point favorites. But can the Wolfpack earn an upset?
We dive into this game as part of our college football Week 13 predictions.

King carves up Wolfpack defense
Though the Yellow Jackets have lost two of their last three games, they were without their starting quarterback Haynes King for both of those losses. Though he didn’t do much through the air against Miami, he did complete all six of his passes. He will do much more this week.
King has thrown for more than 260 yards in four games this season, and he takes on a defense that is allowing 233.9 passing yards per game. The Wolfpack have been picked apart by opposing quarterbacks in recent weeks, and if they can’t stop King, this is going to get ugly.
We also backed a big day from King as part of our NC State vs. Georgia Tech player prop bets.
Can the Wolfpack offense score?
Whether the Wolfpack can cover will come down to how much they score. The Yellow Jackets have held their last two opponents to 23 or fewer points, and one of those teams is still the highest-scoring in the nation. Meanwhile, the Wolfpack have scored 24 or fewer in three of their last four.
The Wolfpack have one of the worst rush offenses in the nation, averaging just 112.8 per game. Though they’re facing a defense allowing 241.4 passing yards per game, I worry that being one-dimensional will play into the hands of a Yellow Jackets team that forced Miami to play similarly and held it in check - especially since CJ Bailey and Co. aren’t nearly as dominant as Cam Ward and his offense.

I already discussed why I like this matchup so much for King, so to get this number at just 204.5 yards for a fair price is too good to pass up. We haven’t seen King play to his capabilities in two months, but his game against Miami was a great success; he just did most of his damage on the ground rather than through the air.
But King has proven that he can pick apart secondaries when he gets the right matchup. He threw for 312 yards against the Louisville Cardinals, and he’s thrown for at least 266 yards in four consecutive games. The Wolfpack have allowed three of the last four quarterbacks they’ve faced to throw for 245 yards or more against them.
There isn’t much disparity between the best sports betting sites when it comes to this prop. At the moment, FanDuel is offering a slightly better price than the others, so it's the best place to wager.
