Canbet website is no longer redirecting users to the contact page for its Indian parent company Delta. Just its old shell. So you can access some of your old favourites like: Terms & Conditions, Help & Rules, plus the Disclaimer section where it states:

"Canbet holds a licence to offer an Internet betting service by the Government of the United Kingdom. In offering this service, Canbet will at all times comply with applicable laws in the United Kingdom.

Further, Canbet accepts no responsibility under the law in any jurisdiction other than the United Kingdom."

    Hello all,

    My Canbet account number: 1016340

I am owed a total of 1714.73 EUR (all from sports betting).

I am really impressed with the collective effort, specially from Shari. I would also be willing to join any legal action.

The amount just listed on here is huge. This is all the more reason for the GC to come clean about exactly what they were told regarding liabilities and the auditors view that assets covered liabilities. If the auditors did not understand the full scale of liabilities then surely they are culpable as well. If they were wilfully misled by Lord & co. then this is a serious offence under company law. What gets me almost as much as Canbet rogue behaviour is the arse covering by the GC who are basically obstructing us getting to the bottom of what happened to cover their own incompetence and lack of timely action.

Has anyone who had an FoI request turned down took it any further? There are appeal routes via e.g. the Information Commissioner in the UK to deal with this kind of bogus rejection of valid FoI requests?

I went and wrote to my local MP. David Smith is trying to appeal after being turned down and Marcus Dagnall has submitted a request also.

    cover up

here in the uk we have a long history of governmental and police cover ups. hillsborough and the birmingham six are ones that spring to mind. the list is endless. when the s..t hits the fan and there found out to be hopelessly inept and have made horrible misjudgements they try and protect there own positions. if theyve seen the independent audits where has the money gone? that crock of shit about technical problems and how long manual withdrawals were taking. a bank transfer takes 30 seconds. theyve been mugged of by a couple of aussie con men with the balls not only to lie to there licensee but also every one of there customers. who at the gambling commission had these conversations with peter lord? as sorry as i feel for everyone whos involved here it could be a blessing in disguise that australian players are also owed money. i spent many years there and i know they look after there own. to have asic on our side is a massive plus. they will go through that business with a fine tooth comb and i hope they find what there looking for.

Dave you are 100% right... when ASIC told me we were moving forward I got goose bumps and then did a dance in my driveway when I hung up the phone. From the moment we found out that ASIC *might* be interested in this, I've been a walking stressball because I knew how important it'd be for us to get that final confirmation. We're approaching a million dollars owed in here alone and that's with me not even being able to access their Asian clients and with Peter acknowledging this is just a small drop in the total amount owed. This just doesn't fly here and you can bet your ass that the Aussie regulators are rubbing their hands in glee watching how poorly the GC handled this and continue to. I wouldn't be surprised to see a commercial soon highlighting that at least sportsbooks have to segregate funds here

We just need to keep at what we've been doing. It's been 2 weeks today since I went to their office... it feels like 6 months ago because of how much we've accomplished so much already. Look at what we've done together in FOURTEEN DAYS!!! There's no guarantee about any of this but instead of you all having to worry about legal fees eating into what you're owed, you now have a massive govt organisation working for you for free. Whatever happens, Peter and Graeme's reputations are ruined and will continue to be until each of you are paid every cent you're owed. Just keep every screenshot, email etc handy as I have a feeling ASIC will ask me to provide those details for each of you this week or next.

A piece of encouraging news which has been a nightmare for us players due to the way we have been treated. As stated why couldn't the UK GC have done this months ago?

The GC is effectively toothless due to the lack of any legal requirement for segregated accounts or ringfencing operating funds and customer balances

The only reason i deposited using there bonuse code 100% upto$750 bcz it was license in UK. Trust me every day i receive 10 to 20 junk emails offering 100% bonuses but i was never lured into it bcz those betting site were licensed in some small island like malta and all. All the expert i have seek advice from had said only UK and aus are trustful. But, for my bad luck an UK license sportsbook cheated me...canbet owners are spoiling the name of UK.

There is one form of betting licensed in the UK where client fund separation is commonplace and that is spread betting. Mind you that is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority rather than the GC.

Yep, as that was always from day one "considered" financial market-related activity not gambling-related activity (due to ability to manipulate things directly)

... even when it is spread betting on sports.

I didn't say there was necessarily any actual logic behind their blanket treatment of all spread instruments like that ... but things were muddled initially by Cantor and other financial market participants/market-makers getting into the spread trading business and it would've been ludicrous to envision split treatment/licensing on a case-by-case basis.

It was the confusion that also led in part to gambling debts becoming enforceable by law once more, as it wasn't possible to clearly differentiate between gambling and speculation any more in all cases.

Well, debts became again enforceable by law by the book against the punter, but not really vice-versa as this indicates

There won't be many who can bet with a bookie on a credit rather than a deposit basis. Although again this is quite common with spread betting.

    Shari,

Will you need Canbet account numbers too? I note some have provided them but some not - obviously they would be needed for certain purposes; i.e. to be compared against a Canbet database if that ever becomes relevant.

In any case, thanks very much for your hard work.
