Just under £300, so they may be paying small amounts first.

Any other Canadians in line for a Canbet withdrawal to Skrill see a big problem there?

Yes, I requested a withdrawal by Skrill 11 weeks ago. I do remember receiving an email from Skrill about not allowing Canadians to use Skrill for gambling in the future. Did you look into this?

PS. To those who have sent me PMs: I cannot respond to your messages (yet). The forum server gives me the message: "To be able to send PMs your post count must be 20 or greater."

    Yeah.

Skrill has abandoned it's Canadian gambling customers and will no longer accept payouts from gambling websites into Canadian Skrill accounts as of January 31, 2014.

Payments into Gambling sites are already banned.

Obviously nothing, and also no update from Gambling Commission which was expected for 06.01.

Simply is right. The Gambling Commission gave them a deadline of today to evidence they have the funds to pay us. What a way to treat their loyal clients. A multitude of lies from the Director down.

They probably didn't respond to Gambling commission, nothing unusual for them. Igasgroup is owner of Canbet and couple other sites(which all removed from list on their site), also names of all directors removed from their Board of directors list on their site(before approximately 10 days ). Looks like very bad signs for all players. Not sure if anyone can help us

The problems started so many months ago, now Gambling Commission woke up?? Maybe it is too late for the players. Gambling Commission is responsible for the mess, too. They will be responsible if the players lose their money.

gambling commission released this statement today

How are you responding to complaints about Canbet?

    07 January, 2014
The Gambling Commission has received a number of complaints from customers that have had problems withdrawing funds from Canbet Sports Bookmakers UK Limited, a company licensed by us.
Canbet suspended its operating activity with regard to taking bets and new deposits from 31 December 2013. At that time the Commission explained some of the steps it was taking and that it would be receiving a progress report by 6 January.
Since that date we have received a number of further enquiries and can confirm we are continuing to actively engage with Canbet over their efforts to resolve these issues.

The Commission could have revoked the license today and it would certainly be goodbye to our balances. Work may be going on behind the scenes, we can only wait. Perhaps the commission has realised this episode will not look good on them either if there is a disastrous ending.

    Regards

    Fidelio

    Hi Mate,

Have you had any luck with your small claim as yet, I have just filed today after waiting since the beginning of Nov, just wish I had done it a lot earlier, probably another £70 wasted on Canbet

The Commission should tell us about the progress report soon. Otherwise they could start playing the same game a Canbet, and still be telling us that they "are continuing to actively engage with Canbet" 3 months from now.

I've been trying to make a withdrawal since the start of December 2013. Now we've had the dreaded statement and suspension of trading. Is there any chance of getting my money back?

    Yommyarmouriii,

Any success with filing the small claim? Have you got judgement by default? Any luck with enforcing the payment?

I wrote on here a while back saying that I had filed a small claim against Canbet. I should have reached the end of the small claims process by now but made a mistake when filling out the claim form - I now have to give Canbet a further 14 days from Monday to respond before requesting judgement.

Have you had any useful correspondence from Canbet during the Small Claim process?

    Many thanks

This is something I have heard as well, they told the staff they were being made redundant around the time (a day or two before) the website stopped taking bets and from what I have heard since it looks like the staff won't be getting paid the wages they were owed either now.

i have spoken on the phone to the commission and was told they are still paying players everyday and by all reports auditors were happy they had the funds to pay everyone... but its hard to know how much they actually know. it could be just more lies they are dishing out to cover up for there incompetence in this whole mess!

Fortunately I have no funds with Canbet, having given them up as next to useless a few years back for severe limiting of all my bets.

However, I'm watching for the outcome of this drama with keen interest.

First thing is a positive for those with funds at Canbet. They've always operated in a regulated environment which (as I understand it) requires them to maintain customer balances in segregated accounts so in theory at least the funds should be there to pay everyone.

Ok, so that didn't happen with SportsAlive which was operating under the same sort of environment and regulation in Australia. The key therefore is that there has been no fraud by the bookie's management/staff and no failure of responsibility by the responsible regulator. Both of those factors were responsible for the SportsAlive punters losing everything. And then further salt was rubbed into their wounds by the ACT Ombudsman finding no fault with the administration!

From reports I've read it sounds highly likely that Canbet itself may be insolvent? That alone shouldn't affect the client funds which should be safely locked away in segregated accounts. And it seems from what the Gambling Commission has had to say that that is the case?

So it should simply be a matter of distributing those funds to the customers? But if Canbet doesn't even have the money to pay staff who is going to attend to that?

The UK Gambling Commission does not presently require segregation of funds for a licence merely that it must be stated whether funds are segregated or not effectively considering it is up to the player to assess the risk. Very few online bookies with UK licences run segregated funds; bet365 is one. Ladbrokes and William Hill also do including their online operations under non UK licences.

All this is expected to change later this year when it is likely to become a requirement. The UKGC ran a consultation at the end of last year as to the structure and reporting requirements of the system.

Why hasn't the commission shared any information about the January 6 status report from Canbet?

It would be good if SBR can confirm whether or not any more of its complainants have been paid.

They are going to re-brand. The new name is Scambet. Old customers of Canbet will get a 300 % bonus with 3 times roll-over.

Well, I suppose you could call a situation of having no staff to perform the functions a "technical issue".

My bank manager also once told me that a shortage of funds was a "technical issue".
