fukking tree branches/limbs/trunks pulled out to the sidewalk by peeps that think the city will pick that shit up.

Lol NOPE. Free firewood everywhere Though.

    Stay safe, Northern states!

the liquid inside the old distribution transformers is vegetable oil but it's mountain dew color

when a branch lays across the primary they blow but i'm not sure if that's why the arc looks green

    ChatGPT knows why it's green.

During an ice storm, the sky may appear to flash green due to a phenomenon called "green lightning." This is a rare and unusual type of lightning that can occur during severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, and ice storms.

Green lightning is a type of lightning that is produced by the interaction of ice particles in the atmosphere with electrical charges. When lightning strikes during an ice storm, the energy from the electrical discharge can cause the air to glow green for a split second, giving the appearance of a green flash in the sky.

Green lightning is typically seen during the early stages of a thunderstorm or tornado, when the electrical charges in the atmosphere are most intense. However, it can also occur during an ice storm, when the electrical charges from lightning strikes interact with the ice particles in the atmosphere.

It's important to note that green lightning is a rare occurrence and is not typically associated with severe weather damage. If you see the sky flash green during an ice storm, it's likely that you are witnessing a unique and unusual natural phenomenon.

My power went out for most of the day yesterday from a downed power line in my alley. Heavy rains and cold weather did it. Lol. Thank God I had a few portable electrical battery generators for quick use and plug ins.

It's funny what you learn when your power goes out. No tv with Directv because the dish is wired in with electricity and lines outside, no internet service because that is wired in outside also and you can't plug it in, even the gas house heater didn't work because the thermostat is electric and wired in the wall so the gas heater would not ignite and kick on.

I just plugged in everything I could find to plug in with extension power cords and still came up short with the 2 electric battery generators I had. Refrigerators were powered up, toaster, microwave, lights, stereo, etc. so that was ok. Not complaining just sharing.

I have a gas generator in my shed but didn't have it set up to the electrical house breaker panel. I need to do that to make it easier in the future.

Biv sacking could could save your ass if need be even if your stuck out in a blizzard it may be safer then staying in car

Must be nice to be able to live of the land in an emergency. I'd like to think I could manage for a while in the out doors and woods but I'd probably freeze up, starve and die in a few weeks time.

I have only snowplowed 3 times this year! so next year should be brutal because we have had 2 straight mild winters!

    It's all cyclical.

BG lives in Boston proper, I'm in Fairfield County Ct. both in the middle of winter wonderland New England.

We've had about 1" of snow, total so far, Boston not much more.

Now, as I speak, there are winter warning issued for tomorrow night, 6 - 12" of snow expected.
Some of our great winter storms have occurred in the month of March.
