Are Mob and Gangsters( not like those unorganized one) as active as back in the days?

Like are Mobs, Mafia, Yakuza, still that strong as back in the days? How come we dont encounter them much? And like the movies, do you think if one have the nuts and balls, can they become an okay leader of a l;ower sub-group?

I assume you mean organized crime. Organized crime exists in two distinct groups. A new very organized and intelligent type typically Eastern European (Russians are big) engage in very innovative crime like skimming gasoline tax, cyber crime (break into a companies servers and extort a payment in exchange for info on how to protect yourself), insurance fraud-Russian mobsters view insurance as found money, extortion of every type. These are very difficult to prosecute and require FBI assistance. There are also the typical "mob" groups but ethnicity is no longer a factor. Asians engage in human smuggling, prostitution and sex related vice. Jamaicans are the new drug lords. So on and so forth. The first group is a very serious threat capable of serious damage. The RICO act has gutted the traditional Italian gangs but since crime pays, new players have stepped up with new (frankly brilliant) scams.

Old school Italian Gangster days are over. Everyone will snitch on the everyone to avoid any possibility of jail time. Mobsters are very small these days and the days of corrupting city hall are over

There here, they go by different names now. Such as politician, Senator, representative, mayor, and so on. Stronger than ever.
