U.S. Open Odds 2024: Scheffler the Clear Favorite for Pinehurst No. 2; Tiger Playing
Scottie Scheffler is entrenched as the betting favorite by the U.S. Open odds from our best golf betting sites with the year's third major at Pinehurst No. 2 teeing off on June 13.
The U.S. Open returns to Pinehurst No. 2 in Moore County, N.C., from June 13-16 with Scottie Scheffler set as the prohibitive betting favorite for the third major of 2024.
Pinehurst last hosted the U.S. Open in 2014, with Martin Kaymer of Germany winning by eight strokes at 9-under par.
Wyndham Clark will attempt to defend his 2023 U.S. Open title but will again need to fend off perennial major favorites Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm. Those three occupy the top three spots on the oddsboard, with five-time major champ Brooks Koepka not far behind.
Not initially qualified for the field, Tiger Woods accepted a special invitation to compete in the 2024 U.S. Open.
Read on as we preview the 2024 U.S. Open odds (odds via our best sports betting sites).

U.S. Open favorites
Scottie Scheffler (+450 via FanDuel)
Scheffler's U.S. Open odds were cut nearly in half across the betting market following his victory in the Masters. His second career major win was his third victory of 2024, as he cemented his standing at No. 1 in the OWGR.
Scheffler's PGA Championship odds are as low as +300 with a high of +410. It's difficult to see these odds improving much for bettors over the next month.
Rory McIroy (+1100 via BetMGM)
McIlroy has near-consensus odds of +1100 with DraftKings offering an outlier +1000 ticket. While he's among the betting favorites by the PGA Championship odds, another poor performance in a major would see these odds bumped up slightly. There's no fear of him surpassing Scheffler as the outright betting favorite, so I'd hold off to judge his form over the next month.
Jon Rahm (+1300 via FanDuel)
The winner of the 2021 U.S. Open, Rahm finished T-12 in 2022 and T-10 last year. However, he tied for 45th in his defense of the Masters, his first major as a member of LIV Golf. Like with McIlroy, I'm happy to hold off on a bet for now, until we see improved performance in the PGA Championship.
Rahm's also yet to win on the LIV circuit this year, and his T-10 finish in their most recent event was his worst placing since joining the rebel tour.
Tiger Woods U.S. Open odds
Best odds: +19000 via FanDuel
For the first time since 1994, Tiger Woods wasn't exempt into the U.S. Open. Still, all of our best sportsbooks, save for bet365, offer long odds on the golf GOAT to win a fourth U.S. Open title. Just over two months before the event, Woods accepted a special exemption to play.
Tiger finished 60th in the Masters after setting the tournament's record with his 24th straight made cut in the event. He doesn't have the same experience advantage at Pinehurst No. 2 or any other major venue, so any wager is extremely ill-advised.

U.S. Open odds over time
The first major change in the U.S. Open odds came in the wake of the Masters, and we can expect similar movement following the results of the PGA Championship. Stay on top of this market over the next two months, as value will quickly dry up in early June as this event draws much more attention from the casual sports betting auidence.

How to bet on the U.S. Open
Betting on the U.S. Open, especially given its reputation for challenging course conditions, requires a solid understanding of both golf and sports betting. Here's a breakdown to help get you started:
- Research the course: The U.S. Open is notorious for its tough courses, with narrow fairways, thick rough, and lightning-fast greens. Understanding how the course plays and how players typically fare in such conditions is crucial. For example, in 2018, the U.S. Open was held at Shinnecock Hills, known for its treacherous bunkers and challenging greens, and the winning 72-hole score was Brooks Koepka's plus-1.
- Know the players: Familiarize yourself with the players competing in the tournament and their recent form. Some players excel in difficult conditions, while others may struggle. Look for golfers who have a history of performing well in major tournaments or have demonstrated success on similar courses in the past. For instance, in recent years, golfers like Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau have been consistent contenders at the U.S. Open due to their ability to handle tough courses.
- Understand bet types: There are various ways to bet on the U.S. Open, including outright winner bets, top finisher bets, and head-to-head matchups. Consider which bet types align with your strategy and risk tolerance. For example, you might place an outright winner bet on a golfer like Rory McIlroy if you believe he has the skills to conquer the challenging course conditions and emerge victorious. Alternatively, you could opt for a top-five finish bet on a golfer like Xander Schauffele if you're confident he'll perform well but aren't certain he'll win outright.
By conducting thorough research, understanding the nuances of the course and players, and selecting the right bet types, you can make informed decisions and potentially find success betting on the U.S. Open.
How to read golf odds
Here's how to read golf betting odds using American odds format:
- Positive odds: Positive odds indicate the potential profit on a $100 wager. For example, if a golfer has odds of +300, it means that a $100 bet would yield a profit of $300 if the golfer wins the tournament. So, your total payout would be $400 ($300 profit + $100 original stake).
- Negative odds: Negative odds represent the amount you need to wager to win $100 in profit. For instance, if a golfer has odds of -200, it means that you would need to bet $200 to win $100 in profit if the golfer wins. Your total payout would be $300 ($100 profit + $200 original stake). In a tournament like the Masters, it's unlikely to see negative odds on any golfer until late in Sunday's final round while using our best live betting sites.
Understanding these American odds allows you to quickly assess the potential payout and implied probability of a golfer winning a tournament. Positive odds indicate an underdog, while negative odds signify a favorite.
Odds will move leading up to a tournament's start and throughout the event. Live odds will be reflective of the current leaderboard, golfer performance, and the position of the pre-tournament favorites. The odds also factor in the popularity of certain golfers, and how much money the sportsbooks have taken on those golfers to win the tournament.
