Hypothetically... If Boston Won 4 Straight...

Would Vegas have no other choice but to consider Boston the underdog in the Finals?

    Your thoughts?

Was listening to some of the talk-radio. Yes, I think so. Shine has come off Boston, believe Boston would be Series dogs vs DENVER.

Denver rest wouldn't be a factor? Boston had to battle their ass off to comeback? It would be interesting.

    New Series Price

    Miami -260
    Boston +210

    NBA Championship Odds
    Denver -210
    Miami +360
    Boston +450

I have no interest either way. I was curious with the long Denver layoff.... and Boston having to grind it out... and have no rest. Who would be the favorite? Everyone talks about Boston struggles. I wonder if rest would have anything to do with price?

Yes Boston has a better record... deeper Bench IMO.... but they are a #2 seed. Denver is a #1 seed. People grade oddly at times. It just would be interesting to see who Vegas makes the favorite in this one.

I think it would be factored but it's tough to put a mathematical value on it.

It probably affects game 1 more than anything... After that it just becomes two teams battling for the chip.

Boston's been exposed a little bit but if they come back to win, they'd be favoured just on their home court alone. I don't think rest factors in too much since they get plenty of rest between games anyway

May even be compensated for by the "rust factor"

No Ruppert Jones? You should be ashamed. Now, that's a name.......Ruppert

free agency on November 7, 1983, Jones found no takers, so he headed to camp with the Pittsburgh Pirates and hit .370 during spring training, but was released on the final cut. He found no takers except for Detroit Tigers general manager Bill Lajoie, who liked the thought of Jones hitting into the right-field seats and signed him on April 10, 1984. But first he was sent to Evansville, the Tigers’ Triple-A club, before getting a second chance. His chance came in early June, when he was called up. He hit a three-run homer in his second game back to beat Toronto 5-3. Jones hit five homers and batted .283 in his first 20 games back. He platooned with Larry Herndon for the remainder of year, ending the season with 12 homers, 37 RBIs, and a .284 average. Four of his home runs either won a game or put the Tigers in the lead for good. Jones hit two rooftop homers in a ten-day span. First he became the 13th player to hit one over the right-field roof at Tiger Stadium, off the third deck in right field, which prompted Tigers fans to dub him Rooftop Jones. He then hit one on top of the roof at Comiskey Park. By then Detroit fans had warmed up to Jones, chanting his name,“Roop, Roop.” “I’m enjoying this, mostly because of the adverse circumstances I went through,” Jones said. “It takes a lot of support to bring in a new player into a situation of this magnitude, when nobody else was willing to bring me into any situation, let alone a winning one. I’m not bitter about what I went through, however. All good things happen for a reason.”

Deer, Gorman Thomas, Steve Balboni and many others would be more accepted nowadays with league wide strikeouts WAY up since back then.

Yes. Three great All-or-Nothing batters. Never got cheated.

Funny, I was just reading about Balboni. In 1985 Jack Clark dropped Balboni's foul-pop. Given a 2nd chance, Balboni singled to left, kept the rallying going (which they won, 2-1).

how many of the 150 teams who all lost the series after starting 0-3, were the higher seeds and had home court advantage as well as went to the finals the year before?

    maybe 10 out of 150?

    max 15?

the team that goes 0-2 to start the series is almost always the ROAD Team.

if there was ever a team that can do it, this is the team.

There's no doubt Boston is the team that can do it. Vegas... regulated casinos is a business.... how much money would they lose if they allowed Boston to win the series? Vegas sitting on a goldmine at the moment. Not to many people wagered Miami to win the series. Furthermore, do you think Vegas wants to payout all the series wagers when Boston was +680 or so? There's a lot of theories that cross my mind when it comes to this.

This is all I'll say. If Miami loses G5 tomorrow night in boston, they had better win G6 on sat nite in south beach.

Out of the 150 teams who went down 0-3 never to come back, I'll guess 10-15% were the higher seeded team who started 0-2 at home, so games 5 and 7 are at their crib. Boston is likely one of the most talented teams in history to go down 0-3. Plus, they just made the finals LY. how many of those 150 teams fit this profile ?

They clearly play much better w their backs against the wall (see Sixers gm 6 and 7 and heat g4) so all I can say is that if there was ever a team to come back from 0-3, this here is it.

16s never beat 1s for 35 years in the NCAA tourney then it happened twice in 3 years.

Look out. That's all I'm saying.

as i look through the comments in each thread, i believe my comments are amongst the most cerebral. just being honest.

they were worthy of being placed in every thread on the subject, a whopping three threads.

BTW there are only 20 of us regular posters here so let's just be happy we can talk to each other instead of people in our lives who are totally annoying on these sports topics.
