What's your favorite Book? I don't mean Sportsbook. I mean a book that you have read.

I'll read just about anything. Give me some suggestions. I just picked up "In 50 years we'll all be chicks" by Adam Carolla at my local library today. It's pretty amusing so far. So... what's your favorite book? And why?

Matters what types of books you like, do you like classics, William Faulkner? Or are you into the new type of novels .
. A great book, that came out a few years ago is is
    White Noise
Anything by Chulk Paulnuk is good.
My favorite one of his books is Invisible Monsters.
If you want to take on a challenge, read As I lay dying, its probably William Faulkners easiest book's. But i whole heartly enjoyed it. Going with the classics Ernest Hemming way is anther great author to check out.
I love political thrillers so anything by Vince Flynn is great to me.
One of the newest books i read is Life of Pi.
If you are a hippie drug guy, Dharma Bums would be a good book for you.
ANTHER GREAT BOOK, i would rec commend is THIS MUCH I KNOW IS TRUE, it is a bit long, but it is a very very fast read. Easy read. But i could not put this book down, the first 20 + pages will have you hooked for good.
If i had to reccomend ONE BOOK it would be Invisible Monsters, it is THE MOST ****** up book i ever read. Murder, sex, sexchange, plot twists, shootings, gory images.
If you want a thinker, paranoid, 1984 type book, go with the Don Dellio book White Noise.

I will post some more later, i have all my books in the basement at the moment.

    I'm currently reading this book:

Asimov's Guide to the Bible: Two Volumes in One, the Old and New Testaments [Hardcover]
    http://www.amazon.com/Asimovs-Guide-...0097116&sr=8-1

He uses the bible as a history book. Here's the product description:

"In Asimov's Guide to the Bible, Isaac Asimov explores the historical, geographical, and biographical aspects of the events described in the Old and New Testaments. Asimov's attempts to illuminate the Bible's many obscure, mysterious passages prove absorbing reading for anyone interested in religion and history."

It truly is a fascinating book. I have several more books waiting in line in my kindle, but my wife has temporarily abducted it and crammed it full of books like "what to expect when you're expecting"

and this is the one I want to read next:

In this one, Foucault theorizes that we still torture our prisoners, except we no longer do a physical torture, but instead, a mental/emotional torture (locking a person in prison for 10+ years), that is still just as brutal as that of the physical nature.

I'm a huge reader. All types of books.....sports, gambling, gangsters, novels, bios, etc.

But since you asked for my ONE favorite book of all, that's what I'll offer up.

Without a doubt, it's "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. It was a movie about a year or so ago, but the book is 1000 times better. This is the same guy who wrote "No Country for Old Men".

It is a post-apocalyptic tale of a journey taken by a father and his young son over a period of several months, across a landscape blasted by an unspecified cataclysm that has destroyed much of civilization and, in the intervening years, almost all life on earth.

Its a very quick read, but extremely intense. Hands down the best book I've ever read.

Interesting, thanks Opie, I will try this.
I think many of the books written by Ken Follett are outstanding including:
    The Pillars of the Earth
    Dangerous Fortune
    Night Over Water
    Eye of the Needle
    World Without End

Wilbur Smith writes a series of books about Sean Courtney from South Africa, and another series about ancient Egypt that are great.

I used to read about one book a week before I found this site, now it is about one every three.

Im doing the same. Im 21 and i want to retire when im 40 or earlier. There is a book called early retirement extreme. Its about this guy who would live on 5-10% of his gross income for 5 years to be able to buy a house cash. And invest the rest of his money. Has other interesting stories. The financial advice isnt sound but its very eye opening. After reading all his blogs and advice its really changed the way i think about money.

Im not fruggle enough to practice his strategy but i do think i could save about 150,000 in 5 years that wud of otherwise gone to car payments travel expenses, liquidating assets and such. A 5 year plan can really make the rest of your life very easy.

All joking aside, huge fan of the Dan Brown stuff. Movies are terrible but Angels and Demons was a great read. I enjoy the Michael Crieghton novels (Sphere, Andromeda Strain ec).

Wow...good stuff. I don't know if I'm impressed or just depressed because I don't read nearly as much as I should. Ever since this box came into my life, all I do is read the web instead of books.

I do like John Grisham, though he's not exactly a wordsmith, his stories are compelling reads. I will have to check out some of these books.

Opie, do you have a Kindle?
