    So are these:

I've never heard a pair of Sennheisers that didn't sound great as well. A lot of people are going to post Beats by Dr. Dre, but IMO you should listen to them first. To my ears, they color the sound. I would rather hear as close to the actual recording as possible. Beats seem to have a bassier-than-natural sound to them.

I was going to come in here to recommend some cheaper Grado headphones (but they're STILL Grado!), but I see that you are already being lead to the path of righteousness.

Absolutely...I started with SR-60s and even though they are only $70, they still sound amazing. My Grado SR-225s sound better than my $1000 loudspeakers FFS. Can't express how awesome Grados are.

The best suggestion is to go to a store and listen to some if possible, if you aren't sure what you want then you probably don't need to spend anywhere near $400 - as jgilmartin & MadTiger said, some off the lower priced Grados or Sennheisers still sound good. I'd say the most important thing is comfort, it doesn't matter how good they sound if they are uncomfortable and you have to take them off after 15 minutes.

Very true - I would go to a high-end audio store if there is one near you; you are going to get way better value for money thanif you go to Best Buy. Note to OP - if you do decide to go with Grados, they are known to be less comfortable to begin with; if you have a larger head size you might want to give a few tugs to them to widen out the curve of the headband. Both pair of Grados I have were a little uncomfortable the first couple of days I had them, but now I can wear either pair for many hours at a time with no discomfort.

Generally speaking, 400 bucks is a lot of budget for headphones choices, you can grab bose, sennheiser, or beats by Dr. Dre
