We're making our top Wells Fargo Championship picks with Rory McIlroy as the betting favorite by this week's odds from our best golf betting sites as he looks to win for a fourth time at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.

After winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with playing partner Shane Lowry, a rejuvenated Rory McIlroy is the consensus betting favorite by the Wells Fargo Championship odds as the PGA Tour returns to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler's absence is helping the rest of the field, as he isn't in attendance while Wyndham Clark defends his 2023 inaugural PGA Tour title.

This is the final event before the second major of 2024, so it's important to keep an eye on the PGA Championship odds this week. Any outright bet on the Wells Fargo Championship should be matched with a wager on the PGA Championship, as those odds will shorten significantly for whoever wins this week.

Ludvig Aberg withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship due to injury on Monday afternoon.

Here are our best Wells Fargo Championship picks based on the odds from our best sports betting sites. Don't miss our look at the Myrtle Beach Classic odds for this week's second event.

Who will win the Wells Fargo Championship?

Wyndham Clark to win

Picking a defending tournament champion to repeat always seems like a cop-out, but Quail Hollow has historically lent itself to multi-time winners. McIlroy has notched three victories here, and Max Homa won two of three runnings of this event prior to the 2023 tournament.

The course suits certain types of golfers, and there's a clear recipe for success: Hit it a mile off the tee, be precise on your approach, and make some putts. Clark has been doing those things better than almost anyone else since claiming his maiden victory here in 2023.

He's coming off a T-3 finish in the RBC Heritage three weeks ago and his three PGA Tour victories in the past year give him more win equity than anyone else in this field. Clark should be the betting favorite, but we're receiving excellent value with a winning $10 bet, which would return a profit of $160 on these inflated +1600 odds.

Wells Fargo Championship prop bets

Byeong Hun An to finish top 20

An has been playing some of the best golf of his career and is back up to No. 32 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) following a T-4 finish in The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Though he finished just 67th in the RBC Heritage before that event, An tied for 16th in the Masters, finished T-8 in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and tied for 16th in the Genesis Invitational earlier in 2024. The South Korean is showing he can contend in these signature events.

An tied for eighth in this event in 2017, giving us some hope he can compete at Quail Hollow despite missing the cut during back-to-back appearances in the Wells Fargo Championship entering 2024. He leads this 69-man field in driving distance across everyone's last 16 measured rounds, and An is also gaining 0.46 strokes per round on approach.

The 32-year-old ranks seventh on the PGA Tour during 2024 in proximity to the pin on approaches from 175-200 yards, and he's ninth in birdie-or-better percentage when approaching the green from the same distance.

bet365's +110 odds on this top-20 placing represent an implied probability of 47.62%, so be sure to get the extra $3 of value on a winning $10 bet with a wager through Caesars.

How to bet on golf

When it comes to golf betting, it's essential to understand the various types of wagers available and how to assess player performance effectively. Begin by acquainting yourself with the common bet types, such as outright winners, each-way bets (which encompass both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups, and proposition bets tailored to specific tournament events, like hole-in-one occurrences or player performances on designated holes.

Once you've determined your preferred bet types, conduct thorough research on players, course conditions, recent form, and other pertinent factors that could influence outcomes. Delve into player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may impact a player's chances of success. Armed with this information, you can make well-informed betting decisions and increase your likelihood of success in the realm of golf betting.
