    ABA trivia question

(No peaking) Can you name the NINE championship teams?

I thought I knew this answer but I was off one.

Two hints. Of the nine championship teams:
    *One team won 3x.
    *Another team won 2x.
    *Four teams won 1x each.

It would be a wrong guess from me I was 8 during last season. I have never researched much about the league. What I do remember, more than anything was Dr.J flying thru the air for what seemed like 10 mins
    Straight guess
    Nets
    Pacers
    Nuggets
Was there a team from Kentucky that won one

Jack, that's a great guess. Yes, Dr J defied the laws of gravity. Remember the wraparound layup he scored against the Lakers?

You got the two big ones:
    *Pacers: 3x champs.
*Nets (behind Dr J): 2x champs.
*1x champs: KY. You are correct. Won the title behind Artis Gilmore.
*The other 1x champs: Pittsburgh Pipers, Oakland Oaks and Utah Stars.
...Nuggets had some very good teams but did not win a title.

Jack, I've been reviewing the old ABA finals. For some years, there is so little tape.

ABA had great players. Interesting how they incorporated the 3-pt line.

Big name of the 1968 finals was Connie Hawkins. Wow, he got a raw deal. Growing up in New York City, Hawkins was linked to a sports-gambling ring.

His name was loosely linked to one of the conspirators. In reality, Hawkins had taken a $200 loan before attending Iowa. He had done no wrong but was expelled from Iowa and later denied access to the NBA.

Hawkins played two seasons in the ABL and then resorted to playing with the Globetrotters. Hawkins played in the ABA and then won a $1.3Mill lawsuit against the NBA. He eventually joined the Phoenix Suns in 1969, but one can only wonder about the years he was denied access.
