Toronto fan here - I've been debating this with my friends for 4 years now. Kyle Lowy and Demar Derozan are the 2 most overrated players in the nba and watching this team every year in the playoffs is hilarious because they get exposed over and over and over.
The Washington wizards ABSOLUTELY CAN win this series and anybody on this board including all the guys who responded to your thread so far are squares so don't worry about their opinions. Sharp guys will know that the bench means nothing in the playoffs and that the new nba is all about the 3 ball. The raptors haven't done much of anything to address their issues there and CJ miles hasn't panned out to be the 3 ball sharpshooter they need. This is a completely overrated team, who's starters actually trailed many teams before the bench feasted on a bunch of bums, typically eastern conference teams and garbage 2nd units.
We are talking about a very similar starting 5 vs a very similar starting 5 from 3 years ago and really nothing major has changed. In fact I'd argue Washington's starting 5 is better than it was 3 years ago because Otto Porter is lights out.
Literally 3 years ago these (almost) exact same starting units met and the raptors got SWEPT! I told my hometown buddies that they'd lose that series (for which they were also favourites) and I got laughed at. In fact, I cannot possibly tell you how much hate I get from (uneducated) Toronto fans when I point out (year after year) the exact same flaws in this team - (1) they don't move the ball around late in quarters or when the game is on the line and that hasn't changed at all if you analyze the end of games (2) they suck at the 3 and that hasn't changed (3) lowry still jacks up dumb shots and doesn't pass and gets blocked by people during the playoffs because hes still a midget who cant do anything when the defense tightens up and (4) derozan cant shoot the 3 if his life depended on it, and he struggles with his jumpers when the defense locks down on him.
whatever people in the media say is completely INCORRECT and the opinions in this forum are a reflection of that. the media will tell u derozan has improved so dramatically. the truth is, he ABSOLUTLEY HAS NOT! check his stats from the last 5 years if you don't believe me. he actually regressed this year!
the main guy who was the motor of the second unit is fren vanvleet, whos ball IQ and ability to drive and also shoot 3s was beautiful. however, he is dealing with a sore shoulder.
ANALYZE THE STARTERS 1 BY 1
wall over lowry , advantage Washington
beal over derozan, advantage Washington
porter over OG , advantage Washington
morris over ibaka (ibaka sucks this year) advantage Washington
valanciunas over gortat (gortat sucks this year but also missed the passes he used to get from john wall) advantage Toronto
that's 4 to 1 advantage for Washington. its actually hilarious that they are so widely and highly regarded as massive underdogs. they can easily win this series if they go up at any point. Toronto will have all the pressure as the favourite and #1 seed, and I'm telling you they will collapse, just as I told everybody last year and the year before and the year before and the year before.
the only advantage they carry is the bench
so we will take vanvleet, siakam, and cj miles over satoranski, oubre, mahinmi, and ty Lawson. But is the gap between these guys so massive that Washington cant overcome it? I mean oubre was a star at Kansas and satoranski can hit the 3 ball. if you add ty Lawsons experience, Is vanvleet really that amazing that he cant be solved?
this is a very very close matchup that can go either way. do not let these morons on this board doubt your ball i.q . go with the dog.
Washington in 6 or 7.
