#8402Straight No Chaser Update

Straight No Chaser paddock schooled this morning for the first time in preparation for Sunday’s G2 Santa Anita Sprint Championship. He will likely school during the races tomorrow and possibly Saturday, but Dan will make a decision on Saturday’s schooling based on how he handles himself tomorrow.
Dan remains very pleased with your colt, reporting he galloped great this morning. Entries are being taken today and will be finalized within the next few hours. The race currently has seven horses entered and we will follow up with another update once entries are official

Straight No Chaser Race Entry
Straight No Chaser was officially entered in the G2 Santa Anita Sprint Championship, which is carded as the ninth race on Sunday. Your son of Speightster drew post 5 (of 7) and will be ridden by John Velazquez.
A few key contenders that were expected to enter this spot originally like Speed Boat Beach and Dr. Venkman were not entered and, at first look, we couldn’t be happier with this spot.

Straight No Chaser Race Overview

Speedy Straight No Chaser looks to make up for lost time and stamp his ticket to the G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint in Sunday’s G2 Santa Anita Sprint Championship.
Your talented bay has not had the 2024 season we necessarily envisioned up to this point, but the Blacker barn has seemingly righted the ship and he’s training great heading into his attempt at a second graded stakes win.
Sunday’s race couldn’t have come up much better for Straight No Chaser—there’s not an abundance of other speed in the field of seven, and if he’s at his best or close to it he’s probably supposed to beat this bunch. As we all know, you always need luck on your side no matter how good your horse looks on paper, but this is undoubtedly a race we have to feel confident going into.
Post time for the ninth is 5:00 p.m. PT. Click here for past performances, and see below for a closer look a the competition:
#1 Fort Bragg - Graded stakes-winning miler was third in this race last year with a 100 Beyer, but he seems best going longer than this. Off since finishing sixth in the G1 Malibu last December. Baffert’s always dangerous and he’s probably the second most likely winner, but he’s going to have to work out the right trip from the rail and hope someone softens up Straight No Chaser early.
#2 Mbagnick - Chilean import has never competed at a distance this sharp and is best around two turns. Does show some decent works since moving from Florida to SoCal, but he’d be a big surprise.
#3 See Through It - Hard-knocking 7-year-old has made 10 trips to the winner’s circle, but his two most recent wins came in $16K and $12.5K starters. Off the board in both the G1 Bing Crosby and G2 Pat O’Brien. Have to question his class.
#4 Roll On Big Joe - Florida-bred took a track-and-trip optional claimer narrowly in May, good for a career-best 87 Beyer. Needs to get faster.
#6 Neiman - Five-for-eight lifetime, but his wins have all come at Zia, Sunland and Emerald Downs. TimeformUS pace figures say he’s the horse to press Straight No Chaser early.
#7 For All Mankind - Began his career as a miler in France before running third in a down-the-hill turf sprint last April off the trainer change. Resurfaced this August at Del Mar for a sharp 5 1/2-furlong allowance tally, good for a relatively strong 92 Beyer. If he shows the type of speed he did that day he’ll have more of a say early than the pace figures seem to predict. The X-factor.

What a great feeling when the stalker throws in the towel and leaves you on the lead alone with your rider still sitting there.

Lolol. Every time the jock asked him to do something, he would climb a little as he ran. Not sure if that was kickback, or what, but that will get ironed out . I think he will love the grass. He is just learning. A lot of upside their. His numbers will only improve with each race I think.
#4 hands of time (3-1)
Switched leads late which cost him. As soon as he did , at the 1/8th pole, he started fighting again. You could see how tired that left leg was from the 1/4 pole until the 1/8th pole . Real glad you are able to see that JBEX. Just as soon as he went back to the right leg he reengaged into the race.
That was a classic example of how important switching leads is.
Eerily similar to DM. Man, I'm so glad you are seeing that ! A whole other dimension to this isn't it? It can explain a lot of things that are going on that might not otherwise make sense on paper from one race to another. Good stuff JBEX.Comment -

#8430When they turn for home, my eyes go away from the rider and the head and down to the horses chest to be sure and see the lead change, then, right back to the jockey, and the horses head. Especially if I have determined that the horse will most likely win unless it does something dumb. I also glance at the chest of the lead horse and hope they do not switch if I am trying to run them down. Albeit for just a second or two. But that's all it typically takes.Comment -

#8431Sorry for the delay. Your horse ran great yesterday. The only other speed in the race was stalking along but watching his rider, about 1/2 way around the turn he moves his hands to move up and gets no response. THAT, was the race as your horse was able to stay in cruise control into the lane and it was all over.
What a great feeling when the stalker throws in the towel and leaves you on the lead alone with your rider still sitting there.

#8433Straight No Chaser has exited yesterday's big performance in fine order thus far--he scoped clean last night, ate up and looks good this morning.Straight No Chaser Post-Race Update
He earned a solid 104 Beyer Speed Figure. That puts him right there with the best one-turn performances run this year. The top Beyer in a sprint this year has been a 106, and the leaders in the division have been in the 104-106 range for the most part. SNC also ran a 107 in last year's G3 Maryland Sprint.
