        CURVEBALL
This is so nasty that it comes with its own accompanying dose of penicillin. Would anyone bet on the Pirates to score four runs in LA? Probably not, except my crazy ass. And the reason .. Zach Duke. For whatever rhyme or reason, when Duke pitches against the Dodgers ... the Pirates score runs. They have scored at least four runs in five straight starts for Duke against the Dodgers dating back to 2008. Considering they have scored only four runs or better in 2 of the 8 games on this road trip, perhaps Duke pitching is what they need. LA has had major problems hitting lefties, so even a mook like Duke could keep LA in check. Would that give Pittsburgh some sort of bump to produce offensively? Dunno, but getting a reliever making a spot start could. Not to mention a guy pitching in the majors this season after never pitching above Class A. Pittsburgh has seen Monasterios too with the righty yielding one earned run in 2 IP against them in two appearances earlier this season. He's been solid in relief, but looking for a reliever to carry you past 4-5 innings also means that Pittsburgh could get into the Dodger bullpen which has been better of late, but still has appeared a bit vulnerable. Team Total is at 3.5 at just -105. Hitting the OVER. Uncle Charlie thinks this is a hidden gem for the night capr and says bend it in for a late night win.

            FASTBALL
Orioles visit Yankee Stadium tonight with Guthrie vs. Sabathia. This is a repeat performance of last week's pitching match-up in Baltimore. The Yankees won that one, 8-3. They knocked Guthrie around for 6 ER in 4.2 IP. Guthrie's two starts at the NEW Yankee Stadium in 2009 were brutal to say the least. Guthrie allowed 10 ER in 10.2 IP. NYY scored 24 runs in those two games combined. The Yankees are providing Sabathia with plenty of run support so far in 2010, averaging over 6 runs per start. Yanks are in a good OVERs groove, which began in Los Angeles last week. NYY have now gone to totals of at least 9 runs in 7 of their last 9 overall. Both bullpens have been average with the Orioles sporting a 4.73 ERA in their last 10 & NYY at 4.44 in that same span. Total is set at 9 at -105, sitting on the OVER.

                    CURVEBALL
Uncle Charlie says the Mets are a good shot to bend in a win today. It's Niese vs. Cueto. Cueto does not have a good track record vs. NYM at 0-2 in 3 starts with a 9.60 ERA. In limited ABs, most of the Mets regulars have had some success against Cueto. Bay is 2 for 6. Francoeur is 2 for 5. Pagan is 2 for 3. Santos is 3 for 3. David Wright is 2 for 8 with 2 RBI. Cueto is also a worse pitcher at Great American Ballpark. Last season, his home ERA was 5.16 ... almost a run and a half higher than his road ERA. This season, he's been so-so in two home starts. A solid one with just 2 ER allowed and then another, allowing 5 ER. Niese has been on a roll for the Mets with three straight starts allowing just 1 run. He's generally been a good day pitcher with a 2.75 ERA in 4 career starts. Mets today at +115.

FORK 'em or die trying. US Cellular Field is Brian Bannister's own Nightmare on Elm Street rehash. The righty has a career 8.14 ERA there in 5 starts. In general, Bannister + White Sox = runs as his career ERA vs. CSX is 7.61. Freddy "Krueger" Garcia on the mound for the White Sox. He had two late season starts vs. KC in 2009. One was a good performance [8 IP/2 ER], the other a nightmare [4.1 IP/5 ER]. Garcia has looked Kruegerific to his skipper of late, allowing 13 ER in his last three starts after he started the season with a solid performance against Minnesota. Those last three starts have all gone to at least 9 runs. Over the past two seasons, in 7 starts for Bannister vs. the Pale Hose, all 7 have hit for at least 9 runs. He's been pretty solid for most of this season, but let's see if the Cellular Field-Elm Street theory works. Total is 9 at +100.

Uncle Chuck told me once earlier this season that Dan Haren and runs go hand-in-hand, so I best get on the OVER tonight in Houston. The Diamondbacks have been a good over proposition on the road in 2010 with 11 OVERs in 16 road games. 5 of Haren's 6 starts have gone OVER and all 6 have gone OVER tonight's posted total. Haren has a career ERA at Minute Maid Park of 6.23 in just two starts. Wandy Rodriguez has a career ERA of 5.64 in 6 starts vs. ARI. The D-Backs are hitting .274 against lefties on the road this season and may need that boost after scoring just two runs against Houston in the last two games of this series. The Astros would do well to try and get to Haren early as the Arizona bullpen still sports a leaky 6.61 ERA. Bend it like Charles. Total is 7.5 at +100.

Time to FORK the books and get back in the black. Going to Cincinnati tonight, but going with the opposition's team total. The Cubs set at 4. The Cubs are coming off a forgettable ass whipping in Pittsburgh and only scored 5 runs in the three game series. The tonic for a sleeping offense though may be in the form of Reds pitcher Homer Bailey. All of Bailey's five starts have seen the opposition score at least four runs by game's end. That includes a 5-4 Reds win over the Cubs in April. Bailey gave up 3 ER in 5 IP in that one. For his brief career, Bailey is 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA vs. CHI in 3 starts. Derek Lee has demolished him so far [5 for 7] while Fontenot, Ramirez, Soriano and Theriot all have multiple hits off Bailey in limited ABs. The Cubs have also done a solid job in support of tonight's starter, Carlos Silva. All five of his starts have found the Cubs scoring at least four runs. So taking the OVER at 4 at -105.

Verlander vs. Masterson at Progressive Field. Verlander's career at Progressive Field has been riddled with lots of runs given up. He has a career 6.83 ERA and a 3-7 record in 10 starts. Masterson's 5 starts have found at least 8 runs four times. In his lone start vs. the Tribe last year, he was pounded for 8 runs, 6 ER in 4 IP. 5 of the 6 Indians home games on their current home stand have gone OVER this number and last night's was easily past it before rain suspended play in the 5th. 8 of the Tigers last 10 on the road have hit for at least 8 runs. Supposed to be some ridiculous 30 mph winds in this one and perhaps some light rain. Wind will be blowing left to right and maybe out towards right. Light it up. Total is 8 at -115, going OVER.

Tee it up at Citi Field today. It's Lincecum and Oliver Perez. Wind may be a big factor today as it will be pounding from left to right and out to right field. Lincecum has been the beneficiary of some great run support in 2010 as the Giants score 6.5 runs per start. In three road starts as a result, Lincecum's starts have seen two OVERs and one PUSH. Perez has been decent for the Mets. He's given up just two earned runs in each of his last three starts. At Citi field though, he has struggled. His ERA is 5.65 in 3 starts with the games averaging over 11 runs. Mets have also cashed the OVER in 7 of their last 10 while the Giants have gone OVER in 4 of 5 on their current road trip. Lincecum's career stats vs. NYM are 0-1 in 3 starts with a 5.68 ERA. Perez is 0-5 with a 7.07 ERA in 9 starts vs. SF. Total is 7, going OVER at -123.

Oh Uncle Charlie is a sad man. He used to eagerly anticipate Matt Garza day as the day to pound the under. But Uncle Chuck he says times they are a changin' ... well, times they have a changed already. Garza's last three starts have all gone OVER, a lot due to the huge run support the Rays are giving him. In all six starts this season, Tampa has backed Garza with at least four runs. That could easily continue tonight against Joel Pineiro. Pineiro righted his own sinking ship at Boston last start, yielding just two ER after allowing 15 ER in his two starts prior to that. The Rays were held in check in Oakland, including yesterday's no hitter by Dallas Braden. Expect a solid showing by the Rays offense tonight and don't be surprised if Garza gets hit a little. He has a lifetime ERA of 6.46 vs. LAA. That includes a 10.80 ERA at Angels Stadium where he was roughed up for 6 ER in 3+ IP last season. The better Tampa pounds Pineiro, the better chances of Tampa running up the run count as the Angels bullpen sports a 5.31 ERA. Total is 8.5 at -105, going OVER.

Time to FORK the books again. Yankees and Tigers today with Team Napalm combining for the starts tonight in Vasquez and Porcello. Vasquez has been absolutely toasted this season, giving up 4 ER or more if 4 of his 5 starts. His totals have hit double digits in 4 of 5. Porcello is just as lost as he has not given up 5 runs in each of his last four starts. 4 of Porcello's 6 starts have hit double digits this season. In his lone start against the Yankees, Porcello was shelled last year for 6 ER in 3.2 IP. Vasquez has a career ERA over 6 at Comerica Park. The Yankees have been a solid road OVER this season with the OVER cashing in 12 of 19. Rain may delay the start of this one, but there looks like there will be a window to get this one in. The wind will be whipping, either in from left or left center most likely. Surprisingly last year, that led to OVERs in 7 of 9 reported games with these conditions at Comerica. Total is 10 at most books, but if you can find an alternate line at 9.5 that is where I am headed to stay off a potential push at 10. So going OVER 9.5 at -125.

Will stick with this play in Game #1 of the double header today dependent on the lineups, but have the same thoughts as yesterday with the pitchers.
