This has nothing to do with stats or ratings, just my opinion on the best quarterbacks in the league as far as "winning games" goes...
-Smarts/It Factor
-Throwing Accuracy
-Mobility
-Throwing Strength
-Size/Durability
1. Rodgers: I've been saying he is the best to ever play football for a while now...you are just now starting to hear people throw this around... Sure, the rules of today's game only help his dominance, but we have never seen a QB this smart yet mobile, accurate yet strong armed. He takes shots and gets right back up... He doesn't need a running game or a 5 second pocket... He is the greatest of all times...
2. Brady: I look for reasons to drop this guy down the list but I can't. Sure he has had one of the greatest coaches ever and seems to always have 6 seconds to throw, but he is just so fukkin accurate and seems to always find the open man. And if no one is open, he will "throw" them open. The guy is like an artist, his brilliance is sometimes hard to even notice at times.
3. Roethlisberger: Maybe not the smartest QB we have ever seen, but he makes up with it by extending plays and turning nothing into something. His strength, size, and durability make him a one man wrecking crew. You can throw this guy on the worst team in the league and he would make them an 8 win team INSTANTLY... He is one of the most under rated QB of all times, a sure fire hall of famer in my eyes...
4. Brees: Not the biggest fan of this guy to tell you the truth. He isn't very tall and not very mobile. What he is good at is making quick decisions and putting the ball where it needs to be. I always wonder where this guy would be without Coach Payton and his system...No question this guy is good, I just think he is a tad bit over rated.
5. Vick: Say what you want, when this guy is healthy, you will most likely watch his game, and probably have your money on him as well. His lack of durability and touch will keep him from winning a Superbowl... Sad
6. Dalton: I know what your thinking... but this guy can play... His quick release is a thing of beauty. He has lost 4 games in his brief NFL career, none by more than one score and 3 of the teams have great defenses (Niners, Steelers, Ravens)
7. Romo: Not quite third Opie but he is surely a top ten QB... And since I like quarterbacks that are mobile I have him at seven. He will make bone headed mistakes, and seems to not really give a shit at times... He can beat anyone, but also can lose to anyone... His inconsistency will always be his downfall. I don't see him winning a Superbowl without a first round bye and a playoff without A.Rodgers... Good Luck with that
8. Eli Manning: People have been trying to turn this guy into a legend of late, but they can't fool me. If QB's were judged by getting the most out of their god-given talents, than this guy would be #1... Thing is, he isn't very talented... Not very mobile, doesn't throw a great ball... He is smart and can make solid pre-snap reads and when all is said and done he does win games... How much of those wins have to do with his offensive and defensive lines though?
9. Cutler: Remember the days of Phillip Rivers making fun of this guy across the field as time ran out... Oh have times changed... A little bit quirky, but he can throw a great ball and make something out of nothing. You have to be pretty good to throw the ball to little guys like Hester and Knox...
10. Ryan: This guy's stock has dropped over the last 12 months or so and for good reason. He is a poor mans Peyton Manning, and if Peyton was on this list I would explain to you why he is over rated...Take him away from his friendly dome and the ice melts...
11. Rivers: Many think he is a top 5 QB... He's been surrounded by Hall of Famers and has never won anything. He throws side-armed and isn't mobile... Yeah, just what I look for in my quarterback...
12. Schaub: The book is still out on this guy, thought we would get to see what he was all about this year and then he got hurt. Helps to have Andre Johnson and what looks like a very good defense this year. We might see him in the AFC Championship next year.
13. Cam Newton: Maybe too low, maybe too high... I think he will surpass Vick as the best black quarterback ever one day... The thing that sets him apart is the fact that he can throw with touch... He's mobile, big, strong armed, has touch, and is a monster in the red zone... but he must prove he can make solid decisions and throw with accuracy if he wants to be great... It's already hard to bet against this guy and his team can't even play defense... Scary
14. Fitzpatrick: Not the most talented guy, but very smart... Not going to get much better so they will need to get this guy some weapons. Johnson and Nelson at WR will not cut it... A guy like this needs a game changing wideout like C.Johnson or A.Johnson...
15. Hasselback: Career just about over, the definition of average now... Jake Locker came in the other day and looked like a potential star... Hope to get to see more of Locker in the coming weeks. Locker is mobile and has a cannon... If he proves to be football smart and accurate we could be looking at a Pro-Bowler...
16. Freeman: Stock has been dropping this year, might lack the "it factor"... Hard to tell just yet...
17. Stafford: Take away Megatron and what are you left with?? An inaccurate, not very mobile, injury prone guy with a strong arm... Sounds kinda like Jeff George, you can get him for the league minimum...
18. A.Smith: Harbaugh and a great defense making him look great this year... Or maybe he really is?? Probably not, but this is the first time in his career they have had some stability in San Francisco... So we should find out what he is all about soon...
19. Bradford: Sorry Rams fans, but this guy will never pan out... He isn't as mobile as he should be... He is fragile... and he can't throw with touch... You basically have Mike Vick without the 50 yard runs... Start Over!
20. Ponder: Sometimes I like what I see, and sometimes not... It almost seems like he does better when the play breaks down... There is potential though, seems smart, mobile, and composed... I will wait before I make a definite call on this guy...
21. Palmer: Pretty good game manager and has a remarkable ability to throw the ball to a spot... Problem is you need some very good wideouts to play QB this way (something Oakland definitely lacks) Not very mobile, so pass protection is a must...
22. Kolb: Looks like the Cards whiffed... I'm trying to think of a strength this guy has... Tall? Strong Arm? Mobile? Accurate? Why did they give this guy so much money???
23. Flacco: Most over rated QB in the league... Ill give you a strong arm... What else can he do??
24. Colt McCoy: If he was 5 inches taller he would be a top 5 quarterback...Pretty Simple.
25. T.Jackson: He's actually better than I thought, can you imagine how bad I thought he was...
26. Cassel: This guy is the worst kind of quarterback for an organization...He appears to have potential but it is all just a waste of time... the quicker they can this guy the quicker they can move on...
27. Grossman: If Colt McCoy got drunk before every game, he would play just like Rex... Maybe he needs to see a shrink??
28. Sanchez: He can model and throw a slant pass... That's about it...
29. Tebow: STOP IT!!!
30. Moore: I don't care if they are winning, I once saw this guy just run out of bounds and take a 7 yard sack
31. Painter: Still not convinced he is even trying...
32. Gabbert: One of the worst draft picks I have seen in a while...
