#1508I just don't see him matching up. Jarkko was good enough to play doubles in Melbourne after the stomach, so I am guessing he's healthy here and this indoor surface is good for him. Good luck though if you're playing it!Comment -

#1509Alright onto the next batch.
Challenger Parlay: Sugita [Burnie] + Jaziri [Kazan] [+128]
Sugita is in Australia against a local. Simple talent gap here for me. Sugita shouldn't be lagging too much from travel from Honolulu since he lost in the semis. John Patrick Smith was mostly a future player in 2011 and if Sugita is here to play, he's the better player. Jaziri is up against Kravchuk. Both have had average starts to the season, but Jaziri continues to show well as he took a set off Tsonga in Doha and pushed him to 3. Being in Russia, always a chance Kravchuk could pull something out here, but he's still a donkey and Jaziri annihilated him on a hard surface late last year. On his best days, Kravchuk can pump some aces on-serve. Consistency though is the reason he's ranked 185.
ATP Zagreb Parlay: Berrer + Karlovic [+104]
Berrer surprisingly crashed out in Heilbronn a little earlier than expected last week, but the indoor surface here is still one of the few things he's been consistent on the past two years with consecutive finals appearances here. That means points to defend #1 and #2, he's up againt Chuidinelli whom he beat on this surface last year in Bangkok. Chuds got through qualis here, but Berrer should be able to bounce back and get the win here. Karlovic against Kavcic. The good doctor doesn't have a phenomenal record on the indoor stuff, but Kavcic is a good match-up for him. Kavcic still has his best results on dirt and has had some troubles against power servers. If Dr.Ivo brings the thunder boomer serve, he should survive.
ATP Montpellier: Mathieu +175
PHM is back after missing 2011 with a knee injury. He got his vagina wet in Heilbronn last week, showing decent in a three set loss to Bemelmans. Stebe is the draw here. Documented that Stebe was the breakout star of the Challenger circuit last year and he fared decent in Heilbronn last week losing interesting enough to the same man, Bemelmans in the semifinals. Stebe has shown some ability in limited work on this surface, but I'm going with Captain Vagina Pants aka Mathieu here on home soil. He's often saved some big wins for this surface in France and if he serves well, could do so again here.
ATP Vina Del Mar: Ungur -105
Ungur lost a Challenger final in Colombia on dirt last week. He draws Zeballos who got ousted earlier in that same tournament. Zeballos has some talent on this surface, but usually falls short against some of the more accomplished dirt ballers. Ungur isn't a house hold name, but he was a solid Challenger clay courter in 2011 with three finals appearances and two titles.Comment -

ATP Zagreb: Melzer-Petzschner Under 22.5 [-120]
Doubles partners meeting again. All three previous meetings have been straight sets to Petzschner and under this number. No telling the right side here as Melzer played qualis to get into the main draw, so perhaps he's the agreed upon survivor today, but who knows.Comment -

#1523Not sure on Tennis Channel yet. Ordered it while at work now. Will be home shortly to see. Unfortunately from the schedule, does not look like they are showing live tournaments every week. Looks like they show a lot of stuff AFTER it has been played, several days later.

#1529Another parlay
Vina Del Mar Parlay: Maximo Gonzalez + Berlocq [-106]
I think a good edge to Maximo on dirt over Da Silva. Da Silva does most of his work at the Challenger level and usually drops off against more accomplished dirt ballers. Maximo still plays more Challengers than ATP level, but he's a solid contributor there with two clay titles in 2011 and several semifinal appearances. Match is his to take. Berlocq draws Gimeno-Traver. DGT is a decent player on the surface, but the majority of his best work comes in his home country of Spain. Berlocq has turned into a pretty solid all-around competitor and this is one he needs to win.Comment -

#1530Chardy - if he had played on clay recently, he'd be an easy choice. He whipped Prodon last year, but I'm always hesitant on Chardy. He SHOULD win ... but ....
I'm guessing the Ungur price is people fading Ungur coming off a finals loss last week. It's a spot a lot of people like to play the fatigue angle on. I've done it before, but usually when the travel schedule is more hectic. Here, that's not quite the case. I waited and getting him at +115 now, so at least it's a good price.Last edited by EaglesPhan36; 01-31-12, 11:31 AM.Comment -

#1538Baghdatis would be Top 15 if he ever consistently got his first serve in. He's got times where you can't touch his serve, but he usually only gets in like 50% 1st serves ... so he's really giving his opponent a big plus most matches because they see his 2nd serve a ton.Comment -

#1539I guess you give Ungur credit for being a professional and playing today, but pretty obvious the guy has nothing in the tank. Absolutely getting spanked. I mean win a game son!
On the side, I played very small on Riba @ +140. I'm not quite sure what to think of Fernando Gonzalez playing here. He skipped Melbourne citing that he wanted to keep rahabbing with him being healthy enough to play at the Olympics being his goal. So not sure if this is a scheduled start in his home country or just one of those things where they asked him to participate because it's his home country and he gets to test himself. Riba's nothing out of the ordinary, but he is serviceable on clay. He had his own injury issue, hurt his foot in Melbourne but has had two weeks to get fixed. Gonzo is one of my all-time favorites and I'd normally back him because I'm a dipshit. So this one was painful to make, but I think worth a small roll of the dice.
Probably have a Burnie Challenger play or two for later perhaps. Good start to the day, but stalled out with some sucko picks here on the last two.Comment -
