#1480Anderson takes the first set 6-3, good result but apart from the one early game Anderson got the break isto has looked alright.
small punt on tiebreak in 2nd set could be worth a look as isto wont break anderson unless anderson dishes up a bunch of double faults.Comment -

#1491Yeah. I was reading a lot today and some guys had a great point about Hewitt's ability to grind Isner down over the course of a much, but that Isner would likely dominate the 1st set until Hewitt got a measure of the serve. About the same as Dodig yesterday too for Hewitt.Comment -

#1494I think he could take a set. All really depends on how well Anderson serves. If he has his A+ serve, pressure is on Harrison to keep pace.Comment -

#1497Hey EP, what's your opinion on the Isner -120 / Anderson +110 match tomorrow in Atlanta?
I watched the 3rd set and was not at all impressed with Isner's Return game. Just real sloppy and seemed like he didn't really have any focus. The only thing that saved him was his big serve. Does Anderson have a decent shot at breaking Isner's serve? Thanks.Comment -

#1501ATP Washington Preview
Jumping up to the 500 Level this week, so an expanded field with some bigger names and you would suppose, more desire to compete well. Dolgopolov is the defending Champion. Yeah, Dolgopolov. Del Potro returns for the first time since Wimbledon. He is a two time Champ here and has the best winning percentage life-time at this tourney @ 10-1. Rounding out the top four seeds are Nishikori, Haas & Raonic. Haas made the Final here last year.
DEL POTRO QUARTER
Del Potro will have to be sharp to start as he could face either Hewitt or Ryan Harrison in his first match back. Hewitt would be a tougher match-up to me because of his return skill. Harrison overachieved in Atlanta or maybe got untracked some if you want to look at it that way. He will have to serve awfully well just to have a shot vs. Hewitt. Tomic is the other seed in Del Potro's half of the quarter. A good first rounder between Goffin & Lu. This shapes up nicely for Del Potro to get through to the quarters if he is able to get off to a quick start. Anderson looms as the top seed in the bottom half of this draw. He looks to be in good form after making the Atlanta Final. His half of this quarter sets up well for Anderson to advance to the quarters. Benneteau, Duckworth and some qualifiers will float in this half along with Mardy Fish - none of which should scare Anderson. Unless Del Potro gets bit first-up, this quarter looks like a Delpo-Anderson QF. Tomic has the ability to ruffle some feathers, but his form on hard courts outside of Australia has never been consistent enough to beat some of the best. If a darkhorse emerges here, it might be Hewitt if he upsets Del Potro early. Fish draws Ebden, given that Ebden played fairly well in Atlanta last week - Fish may not get a win this week either.
HAAS QUARTER
The ageless one is the top seed in this quarter as Haas will look to revisit the Finals as he did last year. Don't read too much into that though as his run through DC included a very simple draw to get to the Final. His quarter here is much tougher and I would be surprised for him to make it to the semis. He'll face Zemlja or a qualifier first and then Dodig, Berankis or Kamke. Dodig may improve some this week, but his match against Hewitt says fade me first-up with Berankis or Kamke being that player to face him. Berankis would provide a rematch of last week that stretched to three sets. The bottom of the quarter could be a competitive one. Dimitrov and Querrey are the highest seeds. Dimitrov will get the winner of Ram-Malisse. Querrey gets the winner of Istomin-Giraldo. Both seeds here will need to bring a high level early to avoid an upset. Even though his first match might be easier, Dimitrov would be the likelier upset victim IMO. His hard court form outdoors has not been very solid. Querrey is a definite darkhorse in this quarter if he can find his rhthym early. He seems to turn it up during the Summer US hard court swing. Dimitrov and Querrey are the ones I would watch in this quarter. Both have the game to beat Haas and Dodig in this quarter, early confidence is what is needed. The Istomin-Giraldo winner could be a super dark horse in this field, but would need help to advance far. Still, the tournament has a history of seeing an unseeded player make the semis.
RAONIC QUARTER
Even with a pretty poor 2013 season under his belt, Raonic may be in line to get things going this week. His draw could not be a whole helluva lot nice for him. Simon is the top seed in the other half of the quarter and then he has the weakest seeds to fill out a quarter with Davydenko & Llodra. If Milos is able to churn out his serve this week, there is absolutely no reason why he shouldn't expect to find himself in contention for a semifinal spot and maybe even bigger things. The coaching change should yield its best results during this hard court swing if it's going to yield good things. James Blake could be in line to continue a resurgent stretch after last week in Atlanta. He has Matosevic first and then Davydenko if he survives that. He could win a few. Up top, Simon may not be safe for long as Tursunov or a qualifier looms first-up. Llodra likewise could be on alert for an upset with Steve Johnson or Stepanek his first opponent. I'd like to see if Johnson can start harnessing his weaponry consistently after a mediocre year. His serve should give him a chance against most in this quarter, so he could be a mild dark horse candidate. If Raonic flops, it wouldn't be surprising to see a consistent Gilles Simon run out of this quarter. Kudla-Groth in the opening round is a good contrast in styles. If Groth's price is right, he's a good shot at the upset here with his blistering serve working him through qualis this week.
NISHIKORI QUARTER
This quarter looks fun, at least from a betting & competitive standpoint. Nishikori leads the charge with Isner up top. Intriguing, but inconsistent seeds in Dolgopolov and Baghdatis float here to make this an open quarter. Interesting first rounder with Jack Sock & Sijsling. Isner is a potential flameout in this quarter. He has generally played well in Washington, but his matches as usual are generally very tight and coming off of finally getting the Atlanta title that has eluded him, he could be happy to go home and rest. Bogmolov or a qualifier likely will not push him enough in his 1st match, but watch for that 2nd match-up for him. Even when he has won in Washington, that 2nd match often has revolved around a deciding tie breaker. Nishikori generally has not been a large factor in the US hard court swing, so be careful with him. He looks like that boom or bust pick, but I would lean a little more towards bust. Don't overlook Dolgpolov. Trustworthy? Hell no. Good draw? Hell yes. Especially if Isner goes home early, this is a quarter he can get hot and run through. Definitely wait and see on him as you should, but he is an intriguing spot play perhaps.
