A rough day as the Grizz got smoked in the 2h after leading the Spurs by 1 point at halftime, the Wizards stopped scoring in the 2h to doom that over and Charlotte explodes out of nowhere with some surprising point production to burn our under. We are learning things about all the teams and it will take a bit of an adjustment period, but that is standard for the start of every new season. We will take it easy at first and get a good feel for all the teams before we ramp it up into full gear for the rest of the season.

Celtics/Heat under (187) 1x (Locked)
The Heat are going to use defense to create offense and run quite a bit this year because they feel that is the best way to maximize their athleticism and score points. This means that their pace will be quicker and perhaps they will see more overs this year. In addition, in last year's playoff matchup between these two teams, we saw mostly overs. However, those lines were set in the low 180's and the books have adjusted this total to the high 180's. I think they overadjusted by at least 2-3 points and think this game is a bit too high at 187. I have this game set at 184.5 and expect this one to be close to that number either way. However, I'm just not convinced that the Celtics and Heat are going to shoot as well as they did in their first games. The Heat played a lifeless Dallas team more interested in getting their championship rings than winning the game and the Celtics faced a Knicks team that followed the Dantoni blueprint by not playing much defense at all. In this game, I don't see either the Heat or the Celtics shooting at 50% like they did on Sunday. This is a revenge game for the Celtics and they will most likely be playing without Pierce again. However, even if he plays, he is going to be hobbling and less than 100%. The Celtics lost an offensive minded game on Sunday and I can't imagine they would want to get into a shootout with the Heat. The Celts know the Heat want to run because that is to the Heat's advantage. Therefore, I expect the Celts to do what they should have done against the Knicks, and force a more half-court oriented game which should lend itself well to the under. The refs are Bavetta, Dan Crawford and Poole. Crawford and Poole have a historically slight under lean, while Bavetta is usually one of the better under refs in the NBA. Both teams had a day off to rest their legs and get ready for this matchup. Instead of a shootout, I think that will lead to a bit more defense and physical play. As long as we keep the foul calls to a minimum, we should cash this under. As I said above, I have this one set at 184.5 which gives us quite a bit of "value" in getting 187. Based on all of these factors, I am rolling with the under for 1x. Good luck.Comment -

No, I don't play NCAAB. The two main markets I play are MLB and NBA. I also play NFL and NCAAF, but my units are much smaller and I really play those more for the challenge and because I love playing/watching football. I expect to profit in all four markets, but I expect most of my annual profit to come from MLB and NBA. The rest is just gravy....Comment -

To make my wife happy
Just making any profit is an accomplishment in itself. However, I always shoot for between +30x to +50x in profit for MLB and NBA. As long as I do that, the wife gets something nice from the winnings, we get to go on a great vacation and the rest goes to the baby's college fund. I made about +43x in MLB this year and met that goal, so I'm hoping for the same for this NBA season.

Considering a few more plays. Really wanted to take the Atlanta/NJ under, but I didn't jump on it at 182 last night and when I woke up (off from work today) it was all the way down to 178. Now it's at 177. I really want to take it, but that's too much of a drop on a low total like that to take now. I could see it hitting 179 with early under bettors cashing and late bettors losing. Heat are imposing their will. The Celtics don't necessarily want to run here, but the Heat's defense is creating too many fast break scoring opportunities. Barring injuries, it sure looks like the added depth on the Heat will propel them to the Championship. It's becoming clear that elite teams like the Bulls and Thunder are still a step behind the Heat.
In this game, the Heat are shooting 65% and the Celtics 50% at a frantic pace. Both the percentages and the pace will come down, however, the question is whether it will be too little too late to matter. It certainly does not look good.Comment -

Wanted to take the over in the Kings/Blazers game, but the late movement at Pinny scared me off. They were juicing 197.5 at -123 or more with the stopper on the under. I was able to get 196, but I decided to pass. The refs weren't that great for an over and that line movement really spooked me despite the fact that I think this is a perfect situation for an over the way these teams matchup.

Good looking line movement for the Lakers over, but I am going to pass on that one too. I just think there are too many question marks as to how a veteran team will respond to the three games in a row, plus we don't know what Utah has to offer this year.
