Emilio Bonifacio is on an absolute tear to start the season for the Cubs.
He is 9-12, good for a robust .750 batting average!

Todd Frazier hits 2 home runs and drives in 4 and the Reds still lose to the Cards.
Billy Hamilton going to have a hard time stealing bases if stays on this pace. 6 strikeouts in 12 at-bats,
no hits, and one walk.

Now this is one big surprise out of the gates. Obviously it will tank at some point, but fun riding out for now. He's running about any chance he gets since he's been picked off 2 times on top of his 3 or so stolen bases.

So the Pirates manage an entire 7 runs in 3 games against the Cubs pitching staff.
Last night the Pirates plate 12 runs against the Cardinals pitching staff.
Go figure, baseball is a funny game!
Hopefully the Buccos bats have awakened for good...

What happened to Yahoo Fantasy? Their interface sucks, I haven't used them in a few years and it's really awful. I miss ESPN's setup.

Emilio goes 2-5 yesterday and carries a lofty .542 BA into today's game against Philadelphia.
It will be fun to see how long he can hang above the .500 mark.
Interesting (and sad) that he hasn't recorded an RBI yet. The Cubs offense is simply awful!

Angels fans must be pissed.
I was always against the head-first slide. Fingers are to way-to exposed to injury.
Espn An MRI on Hamilton's thumb, which he injured on a head-first slide into first base Tuesday, revealed a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament. The 32-year-old will require surgery, and he's expected to need 6-to-8 weeks to recover.

He was on pace for another awesome year at the plate and then this happens.
We would always hold either batting gloves or dirt in our hands once we got on base.
This eliminated almost all potential hand/finger injuries when sliding either feet or head first.

I haven't had the chance to watch Jose Abreu (White Sox) play yet this year, but I've heard he's going to be a star.
Speaking of the White Sox, they received horrible news that Avisail Garcia, another young talent, is lost for the year.
He injured his shoulder attempting a diving catch Wednesday in Colorado...

Abreu is living up to his early hype of hitting bombs. Very nice start to his career. Own him in a Dynasty League.

White Sox | Avisail Garcia done for the year
Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia (shoulder) will have season-ending surgery on a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He's been placed on the 15-day disabled list, and OF Jordan Danks was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Source: MLB.com BHQ take: Garcia's injury removes much of the uncertainty as to which LF, Alejandro De Aza (22 AB in 2014) or Dayan Viciedo (19 AB), would get the most PT for the season. Enter Danks, whose 5 HR and .333 BA (42 AB) in 2014 spring training make it appear he's a new threat to their PT. Despite the nice-looking numbers, Danks averaged a K every 3 AB and has followed it up at Triple-A Charlotte with 11 K in 22 AB and a .182 BA (1 HR). -Mike Shears Impact: High
De Aza, Alejandro
Garcia, Avisail PT Loss: -80%
Danks, Jordan PT Gain: 35%
Viciedo, Dayan PT Gain: 15% Athletics | Going with closer-by-committee
Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said the team will give RP Jim Johnson a break from closing games out in the ninth. RPs Sean Doolittle, Luke Gregerson, Ryan Cook and Dan Otero are all options for save opportunities. Source: MLB.com - Jane Lee BHQ take: We had already factored in a bit of inconsistency in Johnson's effectiveness in his Save projections, so we don't need to tweak it much (nor that of his fellow bullpen-mates) for now. In reality, all of these committee members project to better skills than the groundballer Johnson. But with OAK making Johnson one of the highest paid members of the team, they are committed to him as the closer long term. So at least for now, expect him to return to the role after a couple of good outings in low-pressure situations. -Rod Truesdell Impact: Low
Doolittle, Sean SV Gain: 5%
Cook, Ryan SV Gain: 5%
Johnson, Jim SV Loss: -10% Marlins | More on Jacob Turner
Miami Marlins SP Jacob Turner (shoulder) complained of shoulder pain after hitting in the batting cage before his start Wednesday, April 9. SP Brad Hand took Turner's rotation spot Wednesday, and he figures to remain in the rotation until Turner returns. Turner could be activated as early as April 18, meaning he could only miss two starts. Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Juan C. Rodriguez BHQ take: The Marlins hope that Jacob Turner will miss only a couple of starts. In the meantime, Brad Hand is the likely replacement. If Turner is out for long, Hand may only be in the rotation until one of the Marlins' prospects is deemed a better option. Hand had very good 2013 surface stats over 21 MLB innings, but his xERA was a run higher than his 3.05 ERA and his BPV was only 44. -Phil Hertz Impact: Med
Hand, Brad PT Gain: 2%
Turner, Jacob PT Loss: -4% Dodgers | Josh Beckett activated
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated SP Josh Beckett (thumb) from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 9, and optioned RP Jose Dominguez to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Source: MLB.com BHQ take: We'll nudge Beckett up a notch as he joins the rotation. But his track record for durability is terrible in recent years, and he'll likely make us reset his PT/IP in a few weeks. He's worth a flyer only for fantasy owners who desperately need starting pitching and can take a risk. -Jock Thompson Impact: Med
