#212so when you watch sonnen v. silva you get the impression that sonnen WASNT overly successfull w/ his TDs? cmon...3 out of 7 TDs landed doesnt tell the story of that fight by any stretch of the imagination...makes it seem like sonnen was only moderately succesfull when in reality, he was dominant in that area...just watch the fight...when chael landed those TDs, he kept anderson on the ground for the majority of 5 rounds and he was successfull in the 1st round of the rematch...thats far more telling then the stat itself...Comment -

#213It absolutely was when it goes to a decision on a big bet fight with one guy being bet heavy. Go look at Henderson. He wins all close 5 round decisions and u know nobody is betting him. I loved Grant over Maynard but i also knew if that went three no way Grant would get the decision because a lot of guys loved Grant. Get it now. The books do the talking in this sport just like all the rest. The good thing about this sport unlike the others is that the crooks haven't gotten to the fighters yet. Now in lets say the nfl i could name ya ten quarterbacks who lay down like pigs when the line is set so the books could rake in the most dough.Comment -

#214Yeah he did douchie. Aldo was even asked why he stopped kicking and he said Frankie started catching them and was well aware of when he was throwing them. U act like u are the zar of the fighting game and u are not. Again one of your famous quotes was "Kennedy is a better striker than Vitor" Who the fuk would listen to another word u would say after that boner lol.Comment -

#217[QUOTE=MD;19010056]That's not the point, and has nothing to do with what we were talking about. The discussion was about Anderson's takedown defence, and he defended four of seven attempts (according to Fightmetric), which I used to defend his takedown defence. Whether or not Anderson could get up once Chael got him down is irrelevant to what we were discussing.
i dont put too much stock into fightmetric stats...all i know is, chael got anderson down relatively easy and kept him down even easier...thats the most important point IMO...3 out of 7 TD attempts looks one way on paper, watching the fight looks completely different...def. did not walk away from sonnen/silva 1 or 2 and think wow, silva has above average TDD...quite the opposite...he is very susceptible to being taken down by high level wrestlers...Comment -

Did anyone besides thor bet on Edgar by the way? I really don't recall anyone even suggesting an edgar play here.Comment -

#234no, i fully understand what the discussion is...youre relying on a stat to paint some picture of AS having exceptional TDD in the sonnen fights...however, im actually watching the fights as opposed to reading fightmetric and no, AS did not have exceptional TDD vs sonnen...he was taken down easy and kept down even easier...if there was any 1 thing you could point out as a weakness in AS's game, its quite easily his wrestling/TDD...if someone is going to beat him, you can be pretty sure theyll have a very strong wrestling base, use it to take AS down and go from there...Comment -

#237Anderson stuffed four of Sonnen's seven shots, and even took Sonnen down in their first fight, with a rib injury. In their second fight, he came out swinging like a maniac, got taken down easily, adjusted in the second round, and Sonnen's wrestling instantly became useless against him. He reversed a takedown on Dan Henderson and ended up on top, he pulled off the famous switch on Marquardt, he stopped Maia for five rounds (who's now dominating high-level MMA wrestlers like Fitch a weight class below). If his takedown defence is so weak, why has no one been able to exploit him yet? Why did it take an injury for Sonnen to even come close to beating him?Comment -

#238yes i know, fightmetric states he stuffed 4 of sonnens 7 attempts yet was on his back for the majority of 4.5 rounds unable to get back up...am i really supposed to take away from that stat that AS displayed above average TDD? the simple answer is NO...im not saying the injury is BS but is there any real documented proof of this rib injury? we really dont know anything about it save for what AS stated...take that with a grain of salt...as for the 2nd round of the 2nd fight w/ sonnen, anderson was blantantly grabbing sonnens shorts on multiple occassions which certainly helped in preventing him getting taken down and also when he pounded sonnens face in...cant really overlook that...all in all, theres a reason why AS is the GOAT but i stand by what i say...his wrestling/TDD is quite easily the weakest aspect of his game...there were clues to this in some of his previous fights and it was blantantly exploited by sonnen in both of their fights...idk why people act as if this is not the case...ive backed anderson in every single one of his fights, including both fights vs. sonnen, but in this one, ill be siding small on weidman...i think he has the skills necessary to make this a tough fight for anderson and that will without a doubt in my mind be due to weidmans wrestling/TDs and grappling skills...if weidman is to beat anderson it will be because he took him down, kept him down and either was able to submit him or grind out a decision...
You're hugely underestimating Silva if you think Weidman will be able to take him down consistently by just shooting for double legs. He has to set up his shots with striking or he won't have much of a chance of grounding Silva.Comment -

#239So who do you have for this card md?
i like frankie, pierce, seth b, leben, edson barboza, and i like roger gracie with points because i think he can probably take a round if he doesnt get the sub. Maybe tim with 3.5 points as well.Comment -

i am worried oliviera can pull something off fom his back. I expect frankie to have great jiu jitsu but i dont feel like i have really seen him in top position a lot. I feel better about frankies heart than snything else. I dont see him tappi because of that.Comment -

#245Im tempted to bet boetsche. Munoz has had a long layoff but tim has had some lucky fights. The okami fight was a comeback after domination and hector lombard got the win in my mind. Boetsche was lucky lombard wasnt really doing much.

I think the fight won't hit the floor often, and if it does, Frankie will probably pass Oliveira's guard. His submission defence is very good, he's been trained very well for MMA. Fully expecting him to get the KO.Comment
