Jeff I think you're overreacting to this afternoon's game. DET made several fundamental mistakes this afternoon. A couple examples, without listing their names but if you watched the game you should know who this is in reference to. One, batters when ahead in the count would take the grooved pitch. Two, dropping the ball. Three, aiming the ball. Four, chopping at the pitch. I could easily continue but won't. They collectively played poorly and will be playing 11 in 11 and you'll see some players on the infield and outfield this swing. Try not to overreact and remember, the season is still very very young.

Lot of talk about match-ups between pitcher and batters in here today, good. Something to keep in mind, while veteran players may have faced each other in the past, say 2 or 3, seasons ago will not have as much of an IMPACT on the turn at the plate. In part, it's also what has transpired this season. Historical information is nice, useful, etc but the older it is, the less value it should take.

I caught bits and pieces of the Det. game, and while they seem to be decent, I plan to wait a week or so before looking at them again. True, stats for the previous years aren't perfect, but they certainly factor. Especially when it relates to Starting Pitching IMO. A pitcher who can put up numbers on a poor team gets my vote ahead of someone who has a team like Boston or Yanks where they pitch under 3-4 run cushions alot. It's much more of a mental fortitude game to pitch when down 2-0, 2-1 than it does to go out with a 5 spot in the first on your side.Comment -

Jimmy Rollins has officially been placed on the 15-Day DL and may require 2-4 weeks to be 100%.
Just make sure you keep an eye on this lineup..missing Rollins does hurt a lot, but I expect Victorino to fill in fine and come out of his slump in front of Polanco.Comment -

Sure is! General rule of thumb at least from my perspective, is that the "good" games are the ones you probably don't want to gamble on. Good in this case meaning it is anyones game, and that makes it exciting. You can sort of predict what a "good" game will be, and then you know a pass might be in order.
Looking forward to winning a medium sized bet I have on STL; however, I see TA also has a medium sized bet on Houston. I'll expect the worst and take a few units for the day as that will be my last bet. Win or lose; winning day. So...

Darn STL only getting a 1 run victory. I had even money on the RL tonight.
Does anyone know where to find stats for pitchers 1st 2nd 3rd time through the order? I'm thinking of doing some combo of estimating how many innings is likely to go, how good he is each time through the order, and see if there is any strength to that method.Comment -
