The Capitals and Islanders face off Wednesday for the third time this season with both squads hungry for two points, and our Islanders vs. Capitals NHL player props are based on the best NHL odds.

Both the New York Islanders (15-8-8) and Washington Capitals (15-9-4) are in decent form heading into Wednesday's matchup considering their less-than-impressive overall records, with New York taking points in six of its last seven, and Washington doing so in four of its last five. Each squad is looking for a leg-up on the other after splitting their first two meetings of the 2023-24 campaign.

Alex Ovechkin anytime goal (+155 at DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐

The only thing more unbelievable than Alex Ovechkin having just five goals this year is DraftKings posting such a generous outlier high in this market. The next-best price at our best sports betting sites is +145.

Ovechkin's shooting percentage on the year is a comically low 4.8, nearly 10 points lower than his mark from last season. He's shot below 10.5% just once, and that was an 8.7% mark back in 2010-11. Still, that prior career-low is nearly double his present percentage.

The bottom line is Ovechkin didn't suddenly forget how to put pucks past goalies at age 38, he's just been criminally unlucky. As long as he continues to pepper netminders with shots, and the market there is priced fairly, he'll start cashing on these goal props at solid odds.

Dylan Strome Over 2.5 shots on goal (+108 at BetRivers) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

New York has cashed in on five of its last 13 chances on the man-advantage (38.5%), with Horvat accounting for two goals and two assists while playing on the Isles' top power-play unit. He's linemates with Mathew Barzal, who is priced at +190 to register a power-play point despite only having three such points in the same span. Horvat isn't far behind Barzal with 10 PPPs on the year compared to 13 for the latter.
