Kyle Larson is the favorite to win his second straight race, as we offer our 2024 Goodyear 400 picks based on the best NASCAR odds for Darlington Raceway from our best sports betting sites.

After the heart-pounding conclusion of the NASCAR Cup Series' closest race in its 76-year history, what's next? It's a journey back in time during Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway, of course. The excitement peaks with Sunday's Goodyear 400 at 3 p.m. ET on FS1.

Kyle Larson leads the pack as the favored contender to clinch victory in Sunday's race, according to our best sports betting sites. His thrilling win at the AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway, where he narrowly edged out Chris Buescher by a mere 0.001 seconds, propelled him to the forefront of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship odds. However, tackling the challenges of the Track Too Tough to Tame promises to be no easy feat.

Here are our 2024 Goodyear 400 picks for Sunday's race at Darlington Raceway (NASCAR odds via our best sports betting apps; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Darlington Raceway track analysis

There might not be a more demanding track on the NASCAR Cup Series circuit than Darlington Raceway - the 1.366-mile egg-shaped oval affectionally dubbed The Lady in Black and The Track Too Tough To Tame.

The famed South Carolina track has been testing drivers for 73 years with its narrow straightaways and abrasive surface that puts a premium on managing tire wear. That's why this track tends to be favorable to veteran drivers, as passing opportunities are limited and the margins are razor-thin across every stage.

Only eight active drivers have ever won at Darlington. None have done so more than Denny Hamlin, whose four victories double anyone else in the field. He joins Erik Jones and Martin Truex Jr. as the only active drivers with multiple trips to victory lane.

Goodyear 400 expert predictions

Favorite: Kyle Larson ⭐⭐⭐

Larson picked up his second win of the season last week in the closest win in NASCAR history, and he's also the last driver to win at Darlington after taking the checkered flag in last year's Southern 500 in September.

That was the only win at this track for Larson, whose three runner-up finishes rank second behind only Hamlin (four). He led 55 laps in last year's race after starting 18th, and he's led a whopping 767 laps over his last 10 races at this historic track.

The speed has been there for the No. 5, and his average finish (9.4) also ranks second behind only Hamlin. That's why he's dealing at these short +380 odds, which would net a $40 profit on a $10 wager with a 20% implied probability, per our odds converter.

Long shot: Erik Jones ⭐⭐⭐

Jones missed the last two weeks after a scary collision at Talladega that left him with a fractured vertebra, but he said this week he's "back to 100 percent" ahead of Sunday's race at Darlington Raceway - a track he knows quite well.

The 27-year-old is one of just three active drivers with multiple wins at The Lady in Black (2019, 2022), and his average finish (11.8) is the fifth-best in the field. He's finished in the top 10 in eight of 12 career races at Darlington, and you know he's had his eyes on this one for weeks.

These +5000 odds imply just a 1.96% chance that Jones will take the checkered flag, and they pay out $500 in profit on a $10 wager if he does. Given his past success on this track, that's a risk I'm gladly willing to take.

Prop: Tyler Reddick top-five ⭐⭐⭐

This track is tailor-made for Reddick, who led 90 laps and finished second in last year's fall race at Darlington. That was his third top-three finish in four races here in the Next Gen car, and he should be good for another on Sunday.

As mentioned earlier, this track is demanding with its high tire wear and narrow passing lanes, which requires drivers to ride up against the wall for the best line - leaving many cars with "Darlington stripes" for their efforts.

That plays right into the hands of Reddick, who loves to run the high line and has the control behind the wheel to navigate this demanding track. These +120 odds net a $12 profit on a $10 bet if he can score his fourth top-five in five races.

Pick to win: Denny Hamlin ⭐⭐⭐

We gave out Hamlin to win last week at Kansas, where he led 71 laps and was pacing the field before a late caution reset the field ahead of the closest finish ever.

I love Hamlin's chances to rebound and add another win to his already sterling resume at Darlington, where he led 177 laps and swept both stages of the fall race before a loose wheel doomed him late. He's still won three of his last 12 races at tis track and has been the fastest qualifier and best finisher among active drivers.

Two of Hamlin's three wins this year have come on tracks that demand strong tire wear management, as Darlington does, and you have to imagine his pit crew will be antsy to erase last year's bitter taste and pick up a fifth win here for the No. 11.
