We're making our best Canadian Masters picks for the four Canucks at Augusta National Golf Course this week, with our best bets for Nick Taylor, Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin, and 2003 champion Mike Weir.

It's been 21 years since a Canadian last won the Masters. There's a strong four-man contingent of Canadian golfers in the 2024 Masters field who'll look to snap that dry spell.

Three of the four Nick Taylor (No. 24), Adam Hadwin (No. 46), and Corey Conners (No. 49) entered this week inside the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). The other is 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir.

To celebrate the season, we're looking at our top Canadian Masters picks based on Betway's Masters odds.

Canadians at the 2024 Masters

  • Nick Taylor: No. 24 in OWGR, winner of 2024 WM Phoenix Open and 2023 RBC Canadian Open | Best Masters finish: T-29 in 2020 | +10000 via Betway to win outright
  • Adam Hadwin: No. 46 in OWGR | Best Masters finish: T-24 in 2018 | +17500 via Betway to win outright
  • Corey Conners: No. 49 in OWGR | Best Masters finish: T-6 in 2022 | +5000 via Betway to win outright
  • Mike Weir: No. 1927 in OWGR | 2003 Masters champion | Last made the cut: T-51 in 2020 | +150000 via Betway to win outright

Best bet for each Canadian at the Masters

Nick Taylor: Top 20 finish (+400)

We're getting excellent value with these +400 odds at our best sportsbooks in Canada for Taylor, the 24th-ranked golfer in the OWGR to record a top 20 finish at Augusta National.

Though the world rankings don't accurately reflect the potential of the top golfers from the LIV Series this week, he's routinely undervalued against fellow PGA Tour competition. Taylor has two victories in under 365 days, with both of those coming against quality fields in the Canadian Open and WM Phoenix Open. He's an excellent putter, and that always plays well at ANGC.

Taylor's played the best golf of his career over the past year, and we need him to finish only nine spots better than he did in his 2020 Masters debut.

Adam Hadwin: First-round 3 balls (-163 vs. Fred Couples, Stewart Hagestad)

Hadwin is in a friendly grouping for the first two rounds with past champion Fred Couples and amateur Stewart Hagestad. So, we're taking advantage of the underjuiced line on this opening round 3-ball matchup.

Hadwin is playing some resurgent golf ever since the fall. He was the runner-up in the Shriners Children's Open, tied for sixth in The American Express, and for fourth in the signature Genesis Invitational before a T-5 in the Valspar Championship three weeks ago.

Though he hasn't played the Masters since a missed cut in 2020, this is a high-confidence pick for the second-ranked Canadian in the field.

Corey Conners: Top Canadian (+115)

We're already backing Taylor for a top 20 finish, but we'll take advantage of the plus-money odds on this pick as a hedge in what's essentially a two-man race to be the top Canadian this week.

Conners ranks second to World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in this field in strokes gained: approach over everyone's last 20 measured rounds. That metric will be as important as ever at ANGC this week with the greens reported to be extremely firm.

A $10 bet at these odds nets an $11.50 return with a winning ticket. That offsets the cost of our Taylor bet should he finish outside of the top 20.

Mike Weir: To make the cut (+400)

This is a special offering for Weir found under "betyourway." Like most of the elder past champions, Weir isn't offered within the standard "to make the cut" market.

But the 4/1 price here is at least a little intriguing. After missing the cut in 2004, Weir rung up six straight top 50 finishes in the Masters, including a T-5 in 2005. He's missed the cut in 11 of 13 events since, but he was 2-under through 54 holes in 2020 before a Sunday 76. The course is expected to play firm and fast this week, negating much of Weir's distance disadvantage.

Experienced golfers have an advantage this week, particularly with the strong winds expected through the opening two rounds.

How to bet on golf

When betting on the Masters, it's essential to understand the various types of bets available, such as picking the outright winner, making each-way bets covering a win or top finish, or selecting head-to-head matchups between players. Additionally, consider proposition bets specific to Augusta National Golf Course, like predicting the number of birdies or eagles on certain holes, or betting on whether a player will hit the iconic "Golden Bell" on the 12th hole.

Once you've chosen the types of bets you're interested in, delve into research specific to the Masters and Augusta National. Analyze how players have performed historically at the Masters, paying close attention to their records at Augusta National Golf Course. Consider factors such as course conditions, which can vary greatly due to Augusta's undulating greens and challenging layout. Look at how players have navigated Amen Corner, the famous stretch of holes 11, 12, and 13, which can often make or break a player's chances of winning the tournament.

Additionally, keep an eye on any changes or renovations to the course, as these can impact player strategies and performances. By considering these factors alongside player statistics and recent form, you can make more informed betting decisions and increase your chances of success when betting on the Masters.
