I didn't read more deeply into the thread. Thought your issue was resolved? I apologize.

I spoke to customer support over the phone many months ago when I first received the card. The lady was very nice over the phone. I said is there anything I should be aware of when doing a transaction sending bitcoin to the card? She said yes... always Triple Check the amount from our website when you initiate the deposit. Meaning.... for example... if you want to send them 500... type in 500 and then click the button. The bitcoin address and EXACT AMOUNT TO SEND will appear. She said... always always triple check the bitcoin amount. She said if you SEND THE EXACT AMOUNT... everything is automated. Once the system gets the exact amount... it's credited instantly to your card. If you miss by one digit... it has to be manually processed.... and it could take 4-5 business days to be resolved.

Again... I'm really sorry to hear you're going through so much trouble. Hope it all works out for you.

Moral of the story, withdraw to a wallet you own (like Blockchain) then send the Bitcoin to Bitpay so you're not at the mercy of two third parties in case something goes wrong.

Forgot to add mention regarding the 12 word backup phrase: I highly recommend against storing the 12 word phrase on your computer as a Word doc or another document like PDF because if it gets hacked (it's happened to people), then the hacker has access to the wallet in the same way he'd have access to your car if he had a copy of the key. Better to just write it down on paper and store it somewhere safe like your safe (assuming you have one). It's encrypted in the Blockchain program on your phone so even if they broke into the software, it's no good to them. However, if you have it stored in the phone's notepad, then you're SOL.

James Howells' digital currency was worth almost nothing when he got it in 2009. Now his 7,500 bitcoins are on a hard drive buried in a landfill.

yup i must have a different app or something cuz i dont get this sequence. i get:

                          1) open bitpay app
                          2) select bitpay **** card (xxxx)
                          3) + add funds
                          4) enter amount
                          5) can only select from wallets created in bitpay app

The wallet address given is where you send the bitcoin to load it.

What are you expecting to see?

it doesnt show an address/qr code to deposit funds to. i can only select from an existing wallet in the bitpay app. so this means i have to first create a new wallet in the app then send funds from an outside source to that wallet, then fund the card. normally i wouldnt care but this is an extra step=extra fee involved. i guess ill just ask bitpay and wait 2 weeks for help.

Each time you tell it the amount of bitcoin you want to load it will create a new receive address for that amount.

I think that is what you are calling "existing wallets".

When the specified amount is received at the given wallet address it is converted to US$ and added to your card. There is no extra step or fee I can think of you might mean.

How much transaction fee should I expect to pay today if I transfer $200 from blockchain.info to my Bitpay card? It's saying almost $8 when I attempt to do this on the blockchain site. Am I doing something wrong or should I wait and try another time? Or is this fee reasonable?

No it's not reasonable. But it's probably a smart idea right now.

You can see the optimal current fee estimated here: https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/

They are recommending $6.93 for a regualr kb size transaction.

That's how its working for you guys but as stated before I have a different app it seems. In my android bitpay app I first need to create a new bitcoin wallet inside the app and give it a name. Then I must fund that wallet from an outside wallet. Only after doing that it gives me an option to add funds to the card. If I dont create and fund a wallet first the "+add funds" function just says error after I enter any amount. I also can just keep the btc in the wallet and not top up at all. So do you see how I have an extra step? I cant just hit +add funds to show a QR code and receive address to send btc to.

Yesterday it cost me $7 to send btc from my ledger to the bitpay btc wallet. Then another $7 and $4 network fee to +add funds to the card.

If bitpay decides to support bitcoin cash then all of this will be a wash because fees will be in the pennies.

Thanks Opt.... My balances has ironically drop $7 in less then 3 hours. Should I transfer to bitpay now or just wait it out until I'm back at my starting balance? I've never experienced this kind of volatility since Ive been using BTC. Nervous

I don't know where the trading price will go short term Eric.

Personally I just do all my transfers ASAP. Over time I've made more money than I have lost doing transfers I think. So I don't worry about it and just do it immediately.

This is just a suggestion because of the high bitcoin miner fees....

You can use Gemini as your wallet/exchange. When you send the coins anywhere.... they cover all fees. And they send it top priority. Had a transaction confirmed in 52 minutes last night. And Gemini paid $5.50

As a courtesy... all acct holders at Gemini get 30 Free Bitcoin transactions every calendar month.

The side effect is... naturally Gemini can trace what you're doing.

                                              Use it wisely.

SMH.... $25 drop so far. Down to $180. I'm not moving until I'm at least at $200. Will it cost to send back 5d?

Yes it will cost about $7 if you want it transferred fast at the moment.

Market is way down so probably not a great time to sell it for now anyway. If you are not in a big hurry to bet it or cash out.

There's an unprecedented amount of transfers going on in the Bitcoin network now that's causing an extremely large backlog to confirm transactions. You're paying that much so your transaction goes to the front of the line or you could be waiting days.

Looking at the number of transactions; looks like the backlog is starting to decrease compared to the last couple days, but its still pretty high.

Can thank BCH and their manipulation. Then most of the miners took off to BCH so they could earn more rewards. The difficulty changed back to bitcoin's favor on Sunday and slowly the backlog is getting reduced. Just really bad timing and will almost certainly happen again soon since BCH have delusions of being the real bitcoin, and will do almost anything.
