hey, Seto, you might be interested in the way i put on my ML/HC bets so that they've got a built in "escape clause" or push if your dog covers but doesn't win (or your fave wins but doesn't cover)...works exactly like the -1 hc in soccer (you win if a major win...but consolation push on a minor win)

ml at +175 (b365): -36.37 / + 63.64

+3.5 hc at -108 (pin): -39.28 / + 36.37

with the 51-53 result the easy one (the +hc on the dog) hits, winning just enough to finance the hard part (the ml on the dog)

so as long as the easy half of the bet hits, it doesn't cost me anything...kinda' like the -1 hc in soccer

i get where you're coming from and definitely not a bad strategy if it works for you.

i actually don't have any particular rhyme or reason to how i spread out my bets on spread and ml, but usually it'll be for example for 5 units if it's a huge dog 4 spread/1 ml, a medium dog 3.5/1.5 and a small dog 3/2... pretty standard stuff.

it can actually depend on my mood too. when i'm pissy i really don't feel like losing a 2-pt dog because they lost by 1 and i took the ml.. So I will sometimes just take the points to ensure my mental health after the game. After all, it can also save me money since it decreases the chances of my going on real tilt (although i haven't done that in a while, since game 6 clips/griz last year to be exact when i did a whole lot of live chasing and lost a lot on top of my pre-game losers, hopefully i've actually turned a corner this time..)

i understand you perfectly...in fact i wrote this a few days ago on D2D's thread after the POR (+4.5) 119-116 CLE horseshit ending.

had to pop in for yet another "where amazing happens" gnashing-of-teeth session...a number of days back i declared that i'd had it for any negative spreads in the NBA...because of shit like this...(POR -4.5)...they're up comfortably by 7 points with 34 seconds left...then manage to get tied AND then win by 3 points..(first of all, how is it even possible to blow a 7-point lead in 34 seconds in a game with a 29-second shot clock and guys who presumably are no strangers to shooting fouls?)...the size of the spread is not a secret to anyone on the floor...game smells like bad fish on an increasingly-regular basis

having the anti-amazing shield in place (ie. the ML) is an expensive way to go...but it's protected me from putting a brick thru my monitor more than once since i made this vow

I notice you're moving in this direction too as i've noticed NBA ML's popping up more and more on your cards...

to make such a practice easier to swallow, i risk exactly one unit on such a play and treat it as if it were simply the first leg of a one-unit multi-leg BB-fave ml open-spot parlay...

FAR BETTER to get to keep your 100 and make 50 bucks with a smile on your face...than feel like you've had 110 stolen AND been gang-raped at the same time

i see the association with soccer too, -1 is always a good thing to have to avoid paying chalky -185 mls (-105 or so instead) or so and still not lose as long as the team wins the game.

absolutely right.. spurs and now pacers are most of the time either bet them or walk away... they are just too good too deep and play good fundamental ball and they just destroy you over 48 minutes..

Blazers have to be the flukiest team on NBA history.. I swear their last 4 or 5 wins have all been miraculous. This team is in for BIG TIME regression. So I will keep fading. The funny thing is that as long as they win these types of games dog spreads against them will cash so even if this bullshit keeps up I will still win.
