    It basically gives an 'out' no matter what happens. For a lot of guys it prevents them from having to ask or answer tough questions about what they're doing or what it's all about.

    The reason they don't "blame" god when they lose is because "it's all part of god's plan. there's a reason, I just don't see it yet."

    Same shit whether they have a career ending injury or a career high game. Gives them something to attribute it to which is easier than accepting the universe is completely indifferent

    I've often thought of religion as a crutch. It makes peoples lives easier on themselves.

    Whenever I try and explain it I come across as a crusading atheist, you did an excellent job there.

    I remember seeing this vid of a black man who was in jail for like 20+ years and it turns out he was innocent and he was talking to the reporters and said he thanks god for getting him out.. Like is that a joke? Your god let u sit in jail for most of ur life and ur gonna thank him..

    Why do people care what they believe and who they thank? If God exists he probably doesn't care about an NFL game, but if players want to think that, who gives a fukk....Then again maybe God is a huge NFL fan, we have no clue

    I'm not even religious at all but hearing people thank their lord and savior seems pretty harmless to me

    They're pretty much just being thankful to be blessed with the ability to be there to begin with

    I don't really take it as an overly religious thing even though they use the words lord and savior usually

    More about being humble about the opportunity 99.9% of the world doesn't have

    I usually can't stand religion being thrown in our faces or being used as a platform to make decisions.....but this kind of thing doesn't bother me one bit
