Cruz K's; Strop with the first-pump. Cards need 3, have 1 more frame.

Fowler adds a 6th Cubs HR -- new MLB record for postseason game.
And it was all of the 1 thru 6 hitters.

Should be Hammel vs. Lynn -- what will the line be? I have no clue. I would think Cubs small favorites.

Or will Cards go Lackey on short rest, and worry about Game 5 later?

Hey Greg do your cards have another miracle in them? I don't see the same swagger of years past. That lineup is garbage. How did they win all those game?

Larussa is definitely a better manager than Matheny. No one's going to dispute that. But I do think Matheny gets so much shit for decisions that most managers would do the exact same thing in. He's been to the NLCS 3 years in a row now, give him a break.

As to how we got here, great pitching. Showed in game 1, not so much in game 2 or 3. Bats need to step up or starters for game 4 and 5 need to pitch like they did during the regular season when our team ERA was 2.94. We did have a ton of good bats out of the lineup all year that are finally back, so we might be able to hit now if we just put together a full game. We did tonight, Cubs just did more.

I ain't giving up hope yet! Get one win and get it back to busch on thursday

I guess Lackey will get the start on the short rest. I mean, so after dominant starting all season suddenly the old man on a minimum contract Lakcey is the Cards only decent starter that can win a ballgame? What happened?

Cards were a regular season wonder. Books gave them zero respect before playoffs started.

If I was the Cards I would definitely throw out Lackey in game 4 against Hammel.

All of our starters regressed except Lackey, it was so weird. Wacha had a great 2.90-3.00 ERA season going, last 6 starts just sucked. Lance Lynn the exact same way.

We were a great team but I agree not a 100-win team, probably should have won 92 or so. Our pitching was just so great that we could score 3 or 4 runs and win a game 80% of the time. Now Cubs are hitting our guys and while we can score 6 tonight, we can't score 8.

Whatever. It's 2-1 Cubs, nothing insane. Someone had to be up after 3 games.

Looking through Lackey's career log, it looks like the last time Lackey started B2B on 3 days' rest was 2005 postseason when he pitches 5.2 and then another 5.2 (78 pitches). But he was 26 then. He also did it in his rookie season 2002.

This wasn't the plan either, so how ready will he be?

not to mention molina, holliday, grichuk not even close to 100%.

holliday shouldnt even be in the lineup, such a non factor. he cant run either. grichuk cant start because he cant throw. wheres jon jay when u need him

jaime garcia big let down game 2. should pitch him out of the pen tomorrow.

cant stress how much molina matters. cruz an honorable fill in but doesnt have the intangibles.

matty carp needs to find that postseason magic as well.

Anyone got a line for Lackey vs. Hammel?

    I'm thinking Cubs -120/7.5

5dimes has Cubs -125. I think they close it out tomorrow but it could certainly go either way. Have to fight the urge to go big after hitting literally everything today.

Cubs batters have a .282 avg against Lackey, Cards batters a .321 average against Hammel.

I'll be taking my home team again with Cards. Lackey shut them down once already, let's do it again.

Although Lackey is much worse on the road

Total is 8/8.5 and game is a slight dog and Cards road. 3.5 looks low. Is that heavy juice? O3.5-110 seems like a gift.

That, and he hasn't pitched on 3 days rest in 10 years. Plus, they saw him a few days ago and should have a much better idea this go around. And Cubs hit better at home. We saw that last night. He also didn't face Soler (or Montero or Baez), but he will today.

No one is mentioning Hammel. Isn't he eminently hittable at this point? This is a rough game to cap.

Why is it that you guys always bet on the opposite of what I'm already on... First with San Diego yesterday, and Cards today..

You're asking for a lot of things there. Lackey pitched 84 pitches 3 days ago, so didn't go his usual 100+. Also had a long week of rest before that. I think he'll be good. And yeah he didn't face Soler, but Montero or Baez? Who cares.

Andyes capy, we can hit Hammel. Cards have hit .323 against him. We definitely have a shot to take this game, no doubt about it. Whether we will.... well that's why we play the game!!
