World Series of Poker Colossus Event Draws Record Field Of 22,374

Hope this doesn't happen during the Main Event!

    http://blog.pokertickets.com/pokertickets-news/world-series-of-poker-colossus-event-draws-record-field-of-22374-8371/

Players Upset By Seemingly Low $638,880 First-Place Prize

The $565 buy-in Colossus Event at the 2015 World Series of Poker shattered all expectations by drawing a total field of 22,374, by far the largest field in poker history. With four starting flights and the ability to enter four times, the players created a prize pool of $11,187,000 which is the largest prize pool ever for a tournament with a buy-in under $5,000.
When all is said and done, a record 2,241 players will make the money, earning a minimum payday of $1,096. A total of 4,480 decks of cards were used by 982 dealers in the event. The winner, which expected to be determined Tuesday or Wednesday of this week, will take home $638,880.
“Wow,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “When you see a crowd that could fill many sports venues, there’s not much else you can say. We want to thank everyone who traveled from near and far to be part of this historic event, particularly the first timers. Just like the sign says, ‘We Hope You Come Back Soon’. We love to bring poker enthusiasts together and help build positive momentum for the game.”
Not everyone was happy with the prize pool announcements, however. With a field size of nearly twice that of the 2014 Millionaire Maker event, many players were under the impression that the winner of Colossus would make at least seven figures.

That first place prize is laughable, should be closer to 1.5-2m

Winner getting only 5% of total that is really uncommon and i dont recall that kinda payout structure unless its freeroll or deal with many players(like 10+).

25,000 fish dropping 10k would be the best thing to happen to poker since moneymaker won it all in '03.

Playing in anything under a $5K event is a donk show. Terrible structure, terrible payouts, and people still lining up to hand their money over.

i don't know how you play days and days of tourney poker. it's gotta be the most boring thing in the world.

furthermore, you can spend days playing your a game then one mistake and you're out of the tourney.

Hey Rm18, what was the structure like in that $500 donkament? WSOP structures are the best around. You start with less BBs than other tournies, but the levels are very long and go up very gradually. For the smaller buy in MTTs that is, the bigger buy ins are even better

it is hard to survive even a few hours sometimes at the wsop but it slows down. Colussus actually was only 40 minutes for day 1 but then hour after. It is not just a shovefest but antes are way bigger than online. Like 400 ante at 2400 blinds so if u get no cards or spots can blind out quick.

Took a bad beat like 15 spots short of money got.in with 10/8 on Q88 board and lost to KQ

Why the crazy payouts? No reason for such a low payout. What's the reason? They didn't think this many people would show up and they have to pay some OT?

More players get paid. That's about the only advantage I see with this format.

    what a clusterfck.

And IMO the payouts were right on. Paying less places so they could pay the winner a mega hurts the poker economy compared to spreading the money around more. Besides, the max a player could have bought in was 2k and change. Pretty solid ROI if you ask me.

Idk opti. That cash would be eaten up very quick by buyins, three days of hotel, food and whatever else you needed to spend money on. That hourly profit is not great when there are cash games down the hall that are full of bust outs ready to lose a couple more thousand. This is coming from a cash player though so maybe the tourney specialists would see some value.

Most players are NOT paying a dime for hotels. And buffets are free as well for most of them

Played 5b, Was not over crowded, I never was in long line for anything because I pre reg'd. Had a blast in the tourney and Vegas is over the top fun. Never got much going in Colossus and just ran into a few coolers. Every daily I found was super soft. I heard people ranting in every game about the payouts. Mostly guys who didn't play at all or people who busted 1st level lol I don't get it. 565 lotto ticket and WSOP promo so yeah they wanted to make it easier to cash to promote the series and Poker as a whole. Cash tables were over flowing all weekend with people just snap almost every playable hand. Love Vegas, wish I was going back sooner.

Sounds like an nice trip bud. 2 more weeks I'll be out there to run up the bankroll in those cash games. Hope you left enough on the table for those boys calling light to hang in long enough for me to have a shot.

Even if that was true that "most are not paying a dime" for room or food, they are still spending money everyday on taxis, tips and whatever else and it cuts into the hourly. I didn't even mention airfare because I'm used to driving but for most that's another big expense. Only point I was making for Opti is that the cash games are so juicy it's better to play those unless you're a real tourney specialist.
