    I've had two of these, about eight years apart. Undoubtedly the worst pain I've ever had. I was lucky enough to be able to pass them at home.

    My dad has had it a lot worse. He's probably had a dozen or so, and a few times they've had to cut him to get them out.

    It's pretty awful stuff. Every night I drink cranberry juice. No idea if it really helps, but the two times I've gotten the stones I wasn't drinking any.

    Drink a cold beer Opie. Actually helps to break it up too. Had one a few years back, was in the fetal position in bed for about 3 hours one night and headed in to the ER to find out same news. Not gonna sugarcoat it...its gonna hurt and will be worse before it gets better but you'll live pal.

    Had one a few months ago, so I feel your pain. The second it comes out you're going to instantly feel better.

    Some advice:

    Go to your man cave a hangout. You're going to sleep like shit, if at all, and will be constantly in and out of pain as the stone moves through you.

    This is going to sound disgusting, but it's actually not too bad: drink 2 ounces of olive oil mixed with 2 ounces a lemon juice at least twice a day. For me at least it broke down the stone so there was much less pain when it passed.

    Last, after it passes do not have sex until the Flomax is out of your system. Trust me on that.

    The diet part is pretty much spot on. Kidney stones are a result of a poor diet. And people that get kidney stones are at a high risk for other health issues. And 50% of people that get a kidney stone get another within 5 years.

    To put it simply, not enough water and too much sodium are the main causes. People might think to just lay off the salt, but we don't get most of our sodium from added table salt. Anything in a package will likely have quite a bit of sodium added. Fast food, restaurant food, etc. The more processed food you eat, the more water you need to drink. If not, you risk your urine becoming too concentrated and when that happens, well that's the risk you're taking.

    There are various types of kidney stones, if I were Opie I would get the kidney stone analyzed when it finally passes so he can find out what kind of kidney stone it was. That will tell him what's going wrong inside. Is he eating too much protein? Or is it a calcium/oxalate issue? There are many types, but those 2 are the most common.
