Move makes sense even though Cuntler will always be a loser.
They don't have any other moves.
If they want to waste time using a guy like Mccown who they also know isn't the guy, they will have to use a pick on a qb-weak draft.
The NFL is tough for offensive free agency.
Big name QB's/WR's/RB's don't leave their teams. They are all locked up long-term and only get cut when they don't perform and aren't worth shit by then.
Contracts in the NFL are the absolute worst compared to any sport by the way. Cutler is a perfect example. 7 years, he will be cut in about 2 or 3 and the teams won't be obligated to pay him anyways.

Never been healthy!?!? Since becoming an NFL starter he's made 104 starts and missed 13. That's 89%.

Very good news for the Bears, though haven't seen terms yet. I think they did the 7 years to spread out the cap hit.

I trust Emery to fix the D like he did the O. Jay Cutler will win a Super Bowl with the Bears.

Yeah, the 7 years meaning nothing. It's essentially what they're going to guarantee him that matters.

Homer detected. Cutler is a loser and a disaster who couldn't win a Super Bowl quarterbacking the '85 Bears, much less now. This is common knowledge.

yeah, Emory just said in press conference they will be focusing on defense in this draft anyways.

I think they will pay a little extra and re-sign McCown and feel okay for a year and draft some project type QB's in 2015 and hope to develop them slowly

Whats he done to warrant seven years, doesnt surprise me though, seems like alot of these teams love a interception prone QB.

that is when the door opens, they may still never win but with cutler it certainly isn't happening that is a fact. he will put up numbers no doubt and the bears will be in the nfc north hunt every year but whatever team he is on isn't winning a thing. good for him getting the cash, the bears had no choice really.

Reported he's getting $50 Million guaranteed

Per year average is just a little more than Stafford's deal, about $17.6M/per

I agree the mans been around a long time know, weve seen his stengths and weaknesses, can throw a perfect spiral but is far to erractic to be a succesfull playoff QB throws far to many wild passes that end up getting picked off. Atleast he's a better bargain then Stafford.

This team would be a dangerous threat in the playoffs if two pro bowl defense players hadn't been sidelined for the season.

or Robbie Gould hadn't missed a gimme FG in OT vs Detroit.

    the offense is scary good.

You're not Josh McCown. He said he'd like to stay as backup. He also said he was considering retiring. I suspect they'll sign him to a one-year deal - maybe 2 mil or so, just a guess. Nobody's going to offer him a big multi-year deal, just not going to happen. Like Matt Flynn in GB, he belongs in Chicago as a backup and anything else is a mistake for both sides.

but we are moaning about keeping a part of that scary offense on and not talking about the defense?

I read something earlier where it said most of the guaranteed money was going to be paid out over the first 3 years, so they could get out of it after 3 relatively cheap... If that's the case, probably not a bad idea.
