    Cubs hire Joe Maddon.

Latos and Scherzer would be my options 1 and 1a, IMO.

    Mad Max yes.

Latos? hmmm i dunno about a fly ball pitcher in that park. The NL central is getting very familar with Latos.

IMO Latos would be a better fit for Oakland.

No. Lester is 1. Scherzer is good, but I think he wants even more $ and Lester is a safer bet and good leader. Perfect fit. Scherzer would be a great sign. but I don't see that happening. I think it's Lester, and if he fails, then Shields is the backup plan. Then Cubs will add another TOR pitcher either by deadline trade or next offseason.

Darkhorse would be a trade for Hamels. But Philly probably wants a lot for now.

Why would Lester prefer the cubs over anyone else if not for money? Very slim chance they land jon.

    Why would he not?

Lester is going to get paid and there really are only a handful of teams in the market with the cash. Obviously the Yankees, the Red Sox would still like him, maybe a couple others and the Cubs. He recently put his Boston home on the market and they insulted him with their in-season offers. Seems he's ready to move on. Yankees? He's going to go to the Red Sox rivals? Maybe. They will make a big offer. But he's said it won't be about money, he's going to make a lot either way, and that it's going to be about his family. He's said he and his wife love Chicago. And it's a destination now. He can become the anchor of the staff with a young power offense coming and he gets to join with one of the best managers in the game and already has a comfort level with Cubs management. It's well known he has interest. Peavy has said he's talked to Lester about the Cubs and openly said he's like to join him there as a pair. Cubs are favorites to land Lester. I will be surprised if he doesn't sign with the Cubs within the next few weeks. Something around 6/150.

Cubs will be losing with a better coach than last year. 72-90 record.

Great hire. Tired of misery, at least they're trying. That does matter. Might not happen overnight but they are showing they give a shit

Really like the hire - Chicago is loaded with young guns. Traded away all of their old talent on the mound, but have loads of cash for some free agent pitching this summer and have some assets to trade away as well.

I was out in Vegas last week and tried to jump on their World Series odds and they had already fell to 30/1 at shops that had it. Obviously, didn't like them that much and passed.

One of the most interesting teams in the off season to follow.
